we stood by the railing, admiring the harbour that lead out into the horizon. in the distance, the sea slowly faded into fog.

"i have to tell you something, please promise not to be mad." kazuha announced, breaking the comfortable silence that hung in the air. i took my head off of his shoulder, facing him. i rested my head in my palm.

"what's up?"

"well.." he began, placing his limp hands on his legs as he dangled them over the railing.

"beidou wants the crew to return to inazuma, and-"

"and what?"

"she doesn't want you to return with us." he finished, slowly turning to face me.

i slowly turned to face them.

the look on their face was devastating;

they wore a shocked, yet disappointed expression with sad e/c eyes.

fuck.

they turned away, taking a shaky sigh and pushing away from the balcony. they began walking away, but stopped, quickly turning on their heel to face me.

their eyes were threatening to let out tears.

"how long will you be gone?! you cant leave me again, for the third time?" they exclaimed, swiping their hand around as they spoke. i felt tears prick my eyes as i bounced over to them, grabbing their shoulders and looking into their eyes.

eyes that carried a burden of problems.

eyes that cared.

cared too much.

i rubbed my thumb (almost said thing😟) along their shoulder, my hands now shaking.

"i-it's only a year, my love. i'll be back-" tears began slowly falling down their face.

"i cant be alone for that long. please, stay.." they whispered, placing their forehead against mine. i took a deep breath, my eyes twitching due to the sensation of water in my eyes.

"i'll be back to you. i'm not leaving you. it's only a year. we might even return before that, and, hey, we can write to eachother, right..?" i put on a fake smile, knowing that both them and i knew it wasn't going to be okay.

"that's not enough." they wrapped their arms around my neck, embracing me.

i slithered my arms around their waist, hugging them back.

"we still have a few days. we can spend as much time together as possible." i whispered into their ear.

they were now sobbing into my chest.

"i suppose.. but you should've told me earlier." they pulled away from my chest, bringing their head up and allowing their soft lips to fall onto mine.
