It's the year 2038 and a deadly virus has consumed the world for more than 14 years.
In Denmark, an unknown politician took it upon himself to create a safe space from the infected. As long as you abide by the 8 Obligations, you are allowed to live...

To serve and protect. That's the motto I live by now. My main purpose in life is to protect the citizens from the outside threat. And sometimes even from themselves.
When the biggest threat to our city is a virus, things get difficult. It isn't easy keeping people safe from something that spreads through touch. So that's why we have to follow the obligations to the letter. I see that now. It hasn't always been clear to me, but after seeing up close what breaking The Obligations does to the society, I understand it completely.
In the last few months of my life as a protector I have seen things people can't even picture in their deepest and darkest nightmares. I have seen children turning into savage cannibalistic beasts who devours their parents before we can save them. All because someone didn't uphold the Distance Obligation, so the child becomes infected. It's grotesque that people can't follow simple rules!
I know I'm doing an important part in keeping everyone safe, and I have also come to realize why Section A is so important. If we are ever going to have a chance to survive this pandemic, then we need the doctors and scientists that lives in section A. we need the councilmen to uphold the peace as well as law and order.
I'm not saying that other people aren't important, I'm just saying that to rebuild the country, Certain people are needed. And those are the people we keep safe in section A. Which is also why I have turned in the wife from my previous household when I was a houseservant. I couldn't do my job and keep her secret. It wouldn't be right. and when they searched the house, they found the gloves where I said they were.
The last I heard; she was scheduled to be banished. I'm told that her husband voted for the banishment and not making her a houseservant.
"Bane! Are you ready?"
My roommate Luke isn't the most patient guy. He's about twice my age and from what I'm told, he is incredible at his job.
"Just a few seconds!"
I glance in the mirror to check my uniform. It's impressive how light it feels, thinking about how indestructible it is. It can't stop a bullet from close range, but it can definitely keep you safe from the creatures' teeth. And that's why our uniform covers up our entire body. And even though it's made from such a strong material, it is still stretchable, and it fits like a dream. I love that I'm finally gaining some muscles, thanks to the personally planned meal every protector gets. The society needs us to be strong. We don't even make our own food. Every day, a delivery boy arrives with our personalized meals. Ready to eat. He just knocks at our apartment door and leaves the trays outside the door.
In this apartment there are four protectors. Luke and I share a room with two separate beds, and so does the other two Protectors. Then we have a kitchen, a living room and a small bathroom. On the ground floor of the apartment building, there's a fitness center that are free for us to workout in. every apartment in this building houses protector. Men and women alike.
