"Clary...?" Jace knocks on my door and peaks his head in. "Can I talk to you?"
"Of course." I smile. I like when Jace is around. He is kind, fun and a sweet guy. I close my book and place it on the table next to the window where I am sitting. He comes over and joins me. He is also hot. Did I forget to mention that? And strong, willful, determent and a tremendous leader, despite his age.
"I want to ask you about something I don't think you want to talk about, but I need to ask it anyway, and I'm sorry."
Now he is making me nervous. Has he found out who I am? My palms begin to sweat.
"We need your help to get into The City." I let out a breath of relief, which apparently he takes as a sign of discontent. "I'm so sorry to bring up The City. I know it can't have been good being there and I don't want to bring up bad memories..."
"Its fine, Jace." I interrupt him and place my hand on his arm. "I can talk about it."
"Thank you."
"But why do you want to go into The City? Are you going to steal their food?"
"No. of course not. I would never take food from other people that need it. It's just... Alec saw somebody that he used to know. He is a Protector now. But they were close once. Best friends. And I promised to help him get him out."
"Oh..." my mind instantly wander to the day of my banishment. The Protector that helped me. Could that be Alec's friend? "You do know it's nearly impossible to get into The City undetected?"
"yes. But if I don't go, Alec will try on his own and I can't let him do that. He is my brother."
"I understand... I think..." To be honest, I don't really understand. I've never had a sibling. Or a real friend. But the thought of losing Jace is almost killing me, so maybe I get it a little.
"What we need for you is a description of how The City is build. Where we can find a Protector."
"I really don't like this..." I mutter but still get up and find a paper and pencil. Then I begin to draw the outline of The City. First, I mark up the Great Wall that surrounds The City. "This is the wall you can see from here." Then I mark up the area right inside the wall that's closes to the Wasteland. "This is the town square. Its where my..." I clear my throat and instantly change the sentence. "it's where the Council speaks to the people. Underneath the square, are the detention cells. There are a lot of Protectors at the town square at all times, but that won't be the best place to find someone. It's too dangerous."
Jace nods his acceptance and I continue.
"This," I draw up the wall surrounding section B. "Is the border between section C, where the poor people of the working class lives, and section B where the middle class lives." The next thing I draw up is the border between section B and section A. "Here is the border between the middle class and the high-class society. Don't go there." I look at Jace. "The security there is extreme."
