"We can't keep living like this. Like nomads. Magnus complaints as we are packing up our things once more.

"At least we are together." I kiss him gently on the forehead which makes him smile.

"Yes, thank God for that. I would have gone insane out here alone."

"And we can't have that." I continue to fold up my blanket and stuff it into the backpack. For a little while we keep working in silence

"Do you think Luke made it..." Magnus suddenly asks, and I can feel the guilt gnawing at me once more.

"I don't know." I respond. "I hope so..."

"Me too. He is a good man."

"Yes, he is..." I close the pack and put it by the door. "Are you almost ready?"

"Yes. Just about."

"Good. I'll get the weapons." I hand him his gear before strapping my bow and arrows on my back. I watch as he gears up in his suit and then hands him his weapons when he is ready. "Time to go."

He nods and I hand Magnus the backpack. I take the duffel bag. Then we exit the building. Everything is quiet outside. Maybe even too quiet. I don't even hear a bird chirping. I signal for Magnus to be alert. Something seems off.

We sneak out into the street but keep close to buildings for cover. Sweat trickles down my back and the small hair on my skin is standing. My entire body is sensing danger, but I can't see any. We move a little further. Slowly. I glance around every corner of a building before stepping away from our cover. Magnus is right at my heels. I don't know if he feels the tension, but he is completely quiet and just follows my lead without hesitation, so I think he does.

We are pretty deep into the wasteland and there are less buildings to hide behind. Maybe it is just because its unfamiliar and more open territory that I'm on edge?

Just as I think that it's all in my head, I see a shadow moving in one of the windows of a building. It's on the first or second floor, but I'm sure that there was someone there. Watching us from above. I turn to Magnus to ask if he saw it too, and that's when all the color drains from my face.

A few feet behind us, a group of Anthroes are sneaking up on us. I have never seen them move like this. Silent. Calculating. The one in the front growls as he sees me, then he roars loudly, and the group run towards us.

"RUN!" I scream at Magnus, grab his hand, and run down the streets. We have to find cover. A safe building, but I saw someone in the building in front of us, so that one isn't safe. We have to run further. They are too close for me to use my bow and I can hear Magnus fumbling with his weapon. Trying to prepare it for use. But we don't have the time to do it. We need a distraction. Something to slow them down.
