Magnus

I take a deep breath of fresh air as I sit outside, basking in the sunlight. Alec has surely found the perfect spot for us. Why we didn't think of this before, is a mystery.

"Hey beautiful." Alec leans down and kisses my cheek before dropping down in a chair next to mine. The light breeze caressing my skin.

"Hey yourself." It is nice to see him like this. Almost carefree. It's been a few weeks since we were running around in the streets fighting for our lives. Now we get to enjoy ourselves while watching the Anthroes from afar. They know we are here, but they can't get to us. Thanks to the high fence around the prison.

Yes, I said prison. Alec found this abandoned prison, and once we had removed all the rotting corpses and given it a good cleaning, the place was the closest to heaven I had seen in a long time.

Sure, we still have to make supply runs and stuff like that, but we are safe. And we can protect ourselves from the roof of the prison. Which is also where Alec and I are having our little sunbathing session right now.

"Jace would be so proud of you right now, do you know that?"

"Thank you." He looks at me and I watch as his eyes sparkle with pride. "I think he would be too. I just wish I could tell him. I miss him so much."

I reach over and takes his hand. He intertwines our fingers and let out a content sigh as he leans back in his chair.

I watch as a few stray Anthroes try to push themselves through the fence, but as always, they give up after a few minutes.

"I love you..." I whisper and he smiles, still with his eyes close. I love those little crinkles he gets around his eyes when he is genuine happy.

"I love you too." He responds.

I don't know how long we sit like this, fingers intertwined while enjoying the sun and the company, but somehow time doesn't really matter anymore. It feels like we've got all the time in the world.

"Magnus, it's time for your training." Simon is standing a few feet away from us when he calls me. I sigh. Alec kisses the back of my hand and let go. Then he gets up and so do I. it isn't actually something I want to, this training-to-be-a-hunter-thing but it is necessary. We have lost a lot of people on or journey from the Hostel to this place, so we are low on experienced hunters.

All three of us gear up and head closer to The City. It is a dangerous place to be, but it also the best place to train. What's the point in training somewhere safe? That won't give any experience.

Just as usual, Alec moves to higher ground on lookout with his bow and arrow. I know he has my back while Simon and I go hunting. Even though that hasn't always been the case since Lydia was killed. For a while, Alec struggled a lot and had some truly dark days.
