Simon

I quickly squeeze past the other Hunters that's already on the stairs to get down to Alec, when I hear the strangers voice. I can feel the rage and incomprehensible understanding of the disloyalty I'm witnessing right now. Why isn't the other Hunters trying to help him?

As I slip past the last Hunter before reaching Alec, I can see why no one has done anything. The stranger isn't exactly a threat, since the only weapon is a broomstick.

"Take it easy..." slowly Alec steps closer with his hands raised. We are not here to harm you." The stranger snorts contemptuous and takes a swing at Alec with the so-called weapon. With ease he grabs it, and the surprise is clearly written on the attacker's face when Alec yanks the shaft to him. He hands it back towards me without breaking eye contact with the stranger and I take it. "As I said: we are not here to harm you. We are just trying to get through The City unnoticed."

"Through The City?" The voice is trembling slightly, but yet there is still something familiar about it. I can see that Alec has recognized it too and he steps closer. The stranger instant pulls the hood further down and steps out of reach.

"Wait..." Alec slowly reaches towards the hood. "Don't I know you?" The stranger suddenly stops moving and looks intensely at Alec. Then it becomes obvious that Alec recognizes the stranger. "Maeve..." He whispers breathlessly and I gasp so loudly that it echoes up the stairwell.

Maeve is Magnus' sister. The one we haven't been able to find all these years. We thought she was dead. I rush down next to Alec and want to hug her, but she just glares at us with confusion covering her face.

"Who is Maeve?" she asks. "I'm Houseservant 976."

"No... Your name is Maeve." Alec moves closer. "Your brother's name is Magnus. We are your friends." He gestures towards me.

She shakes her head uncomprehending.

"I... I don't have a brother..." her gaze shifts between us. "At least I don't think so. I can't really remember..." she locks eyes with Alec. "I can't remember anything before waking up at the training facilities for Houseservants."

"I'm sorry. I can't tell you how you ended up there. You were in a different school than us during The Outbreak. We don't know what happened there. Just that the school was abandoned when we tried to find you. The few who were still there, were dead. You must have been evacuated before we came."

"You looked for me?" her voice cracks. It's clear she didn't think anyone cared enough to look for her. I clearly recognize the trauma from her training in her eyes. It's the same I saw in Sebastians eyes every day. I suddenly feel disorientated as memories of my deceased brother washes over me.

"Simon?" Alec is suddenly right next to me looking very concerned.

"What?" I look at the Hunters that has gathered around me. "what's wrong?"
