Jace
I don't want to do this, but I must protect everyone.
"Please Jace... I don't feel sick... it might be nothing." Alec begs as he slowly backs away from me. I have no choice. I follow him with my weapon raised.
"I can't take that risk, Alec. There's still a lot of people here. Counting on me to protect them."
"But... " He begins but never finishes his train of thought. I can tell he is giving up. He really seems to not remember. And it scares me slightly. Why can't he remember getting bitten? Something is completely off.
"Jace..." Clary speaks gently as she places her hand on my arm. Making me lower my weapon. "I know it's risky. I know he might be changing, but I also know that you can't live with yourself if you kill him while he is still human. I understand that you feel the need to protect everyone, and I respect that, but maybe we could tie him up? Wait till the changing actually starts before doing something that will hunt you forever."
I nod slowly without looking away from my brother's eyes. I actually don't even think I could have gone through with it anyway. He is my brother. The one who has always been by my side, even when we hated each other.
"Tying me up won't be enough if I'm going to change. Put me in the spare cell." Alec gestures towards the extra cell next to Jacob.
Another person I failed to save. Now I'm adding my brother and his boyfriend to the list...
An almost undetectable moan escapes Magnus and I realize that all isn't lost. Not yet anyway. I'll might be able to save Magnus. If the wound on his neck isn't a bite at least. It's difficult to tell right now.
"Don't worry, Alec." I say as Clary guides him to the holding cell. "I'm going to save Magnus."
"Thank you..." he whispers with glossy eyes.
Now, the truly hard work begins. The first thing I have to do, is restore his blood levels. Thankfully, the hunters didn't raid my lab, so I still have a lot of blood supplies in storage.
As soon as Clary has Alec locked up, she grabs the blood from the fridge and starts the transfusion. Meanwhile I clean up Magnus' wound to see what I have to work with. There are clear bitemarks on his neck, but I ignore them. Alec will be devastated if he sees me giving up, so I decide that no matter what, I will try saving Magnus, even if he turns afterwards. For Alec.
The wound is pretty easy to repair. The blood loss is the real killer right now. We can only hope, we have enough to save him. I stitch up the wound as quickly as possible, so Clary won't see that it is a bite. I don't want her to worry.
"Now we can do nothing else but wait..." I sit down on a chair in equal distance from Magnus and Alec, so I can watch them both at the same time. Clary joins me and I take her hand. I'm so happy that she is with me. I don't know if I should be so quick to forgive her, but I can't help it. I love her too much. Just as much as...
