Magnus
Once inside the building, I run up the stairs, two steps at a time. There's no time to waste. The door slams against the wall as I barge through it and rush over to the window. I start to fumble with the hasp on it, as I see the creatures getting closer and closer to Alexander. He is not going to make it, if I don't provide him with cover-fire soon!
"Screw this!" I shout and jams the back of my weapon through the window, sending a cascade of glass over myself and into the streets. Ignoring the cuts on my hands and wrists, I aim at the creatures and start firing.
For a while he stays there, shooting his arrows and I'm seconds away from shouting at him when I finally see him turn around and run. The creatures are right at his heels, and I don't remember feeling this scared for someone else before. It is astonishing how much trust this man puts in me. A Protector. Someone who is supposed to be killing him alongside the Anthroes, but there is no fear or doubt in his eyes. He trusts me completely.
As soon as he's inside, he closes the door and drags a cabinet out in front of it.
"Are we safe?" the Deviator quivers as he speaks while being balled up in a corner.
"For the time being." he answers, but never looks in his direction. His eyes are locked onto mine, and I can't tear my eyes away from him.
"You're alive..." his voice trembles.
"Alexander..." I don't get to say anything else before he drops his bow on the floor and pulls me into a bone crushing hug.
"I can't believe you are here. You are alive!"
With slight hesitation, I hug him back.
"I'm sorry." He lets go of me and step back. "I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable. I've just missed you so much."
"You have?" I smile vaguely. I like that he has missed me. More than I thought I would.
"I think I have missed you too" I reply.
"You think?" Alec tilts his head and looks at me. "What do you mean?"
"I... uhm... I didn't really remember you until I saw you and you called my name. Even then it was only bits and pieces." When I see his smile fade, I quickly continue. "But I almost don't remember anyone or anything from before the outbreak. My parents, but that's about it. it's all very hazy. I do have flashbacks that I've just thought where dreams, but after seeing you, I think it might be memories instead."
"Do you want to tell me about the dreams?" he asks and instantly I blush. Some of the dreams might be too personal and intimate for me to share. Alec sees it and smiles encouragingly at me. "Only if you want to of course."
"I don't know... I don't remember all of them..." I say, which is almost the truth.
"What if I tell you about some of my memories of our time together instead, and then you can tell me if you remember anything of it?"
