2039
Alec"Are you completely you again?" I ask as I stare into his eyes. One blue, one brown. Not a hint of red. Not anymore.
"I think so." He says. "I can't believe you are here. You finally did it. You finally came to kill the leaders of The City. Just as you have always said you would."
"Nah..." I shrug. "I came for you. The rest is just a bonus."
Jace throws back his head and laughs. It makes me smile. This is my brother. The Jace I know and love. And hate. Just a bit. Sometimes anyway.
Even Simon laughs, although he hasn't let go of Jace ever since we came inside the house. His arms are still wrapped around Jace's waist, and he doesn't seem to mind at all. These two definitely have an unbreakable bond.
"We need to move on. If we want to catch Valentine. He has probably already upped his security."
"Sure. Let's go." Jace gets up but instantly gets pulled back down by Simon. "I guess not..." he huffs and looks at his friend. I decide to leave them alone for a second. And as soon as I leave the room, I can hear them begin to talk. I'm guessing Simon needs a few moments with his best friend before rushing out to almost get killed again. And don't think for a second, I don't get it. I do. If it had been Magnus... I shake of the thought instantly. Don't want to think about losing him. I just want this to be done with so I can go home to him.

"Are you sure this is the place?" I ask and Jace nods.
"I'm sure."
"It doesn't look guarded... It worries me. Either Valentine has left this place and is hiding out somewhere, or he knows we are coming and it's a trap."
"Only one way to find out." Jace sprints up the stairs and bursts through the door. I must say his new abilities do come in handy. The speed. The strength. As long as he can control his bloodlust, its an asset to us. If he can't... well, I don't really want to think about that.
We follow him inside, but as soon as we arrive, Protectors surrounds us. Lots and lots of Protectors.
"So... a trap." Simon grabs his spear and gets ready to fight.
"so, it would seem..." I place s few arrows on the string and send them flying. I hit three Protectors that instantly falls to the ground. As they do, Other Protectors charge in. screaming and shooting. I hate those goddamn weapons. They are so fucking powerful. All we can do is pray we don't get shot.
Jace growls loudly and then attacks one of The Protectors. My first thought is that he has turned again. But there is no sign of red in his eyes. He is in a lot more control than Andrew was. It seems that he can access the Anthroe side of him without turning. That's good news... I think.
Simon and Jace fight the Protectors while trying to create a path for me to get through. My job is to find valentine. One of the Protectors sees me as I move through the entrance and deeper into the mansion and he follows me. He is fast and therefor gaining in on me. I know I have to do something unexpected if I want to win this. I turn around, drop to my knees and stab my knife deep into his thigh as he fails to slow down his running. He screams and falls to the ground and instantly I slid my knife across his throat, bleeding him dry right there on the expensive carpet.
I swallow thickly as I get up and leave the body behind me. It isn't easy killing a human. I can tell it will haunt me for years, but I have no choice. I just have to remind myself of that.
When I reach Valentine's study, I walk in with an arrow ready on my bow. The light is off and the curtains down, so the entire room is pitch black. I can't see him, but I can sense him. He is there. Somewhere. I know he is.
"Alec lightwood." A tiny desk lamp turns on and I can see his face. I release the arrow, but he moves out of the way just in time. The arrow drills into the wall behind him.
Damn it.
"How is that a way to greet your father's employer? He would be very disappointed in you. If he was still alive, that is." I try to not let him get under my skin, but he does. Just a tiny bit. "You look a little like him you know. More than your brother anyway. But then again, he isn't really your brother, is he?"
"Shut up." I think I need to let him believe he is getting to me. Maybe he will let his guard down long enough for me to get him with my arrows.
"I've always thought you would end up working for me. I mean, I expected your father to bring you and your siblings along with him when he came to The City, but he didn't. Not even your mother. He abandoned you all. Have you ever wondered why?"
I try not to take the bait, but I am curious... why did he desert us?
"Tell me."
Valentine gloats.
"He wanted to bring Jace of course. He actually asked your brother to be an intern with me in the days leading up to the Outbreak. He was preparing him to work in the government. But your silly, stubborn brother didn't want to let go of his dream of becoming a doctor. So, I asked Robert why he didn't bring you in instead, and you know what he said?"
"No..." I move a bit closer, still with an arrow on the string. If he keeps talking, he'll be distracted.
"He didn't want his faggot son to carry on his legacy."
Baffled I lower my bow slightly.
"What?"
"Yes. The sexual deviation laws were actually his idea." Valentine locks his eyes on me. "He wanted to make sure you would never be able to follow in his shoes. He despised you."
"I don't believe you." My voice trembles, because I do believe him. I have no doubt my father could be the one behind the laws.
In that instant, Valentine takes advantage of my perplexity and knocks the bow out of my hand. The arrow shoots off, but with no real leverage behind, it drops to the ground. He grabs my arm and pull me to him and puts a tiny, but sharp knife at my throat.
"Believe me, boy. You were his greatest disappointment." Valentine whispers in my ear as I struggle to get free of his grasp. The knife knicks me on my throat a tiny bit, and I can feel the blood dripping down my neck.
Then without warning he suddenly screams and drops his knife. Hastily, I move away and when I look back at him I see an arrow sticking out of his back and Simon standing a few feet away, panting like crazy. The arrow sticking out from between his shoulder blades. He screams as he tries to reach it. This is it. This is my opportunity, but I can't find my bow. Then I remember my gun. The gun with only one bullet. The one I had intended on using on myself. Now it will be used to put Valentine down. It is only more poetic, knowing that Sebastian's and Magnus' names are carved into it.
I pull out the gun and without hesitation I shoot him right between the eyes. Blood splatter and brain mass bursting out from the back of his skull, covering poor Simon. Completely flabbergasted.
As Valentine's body drops to the ground, Jace enters the room. I turn to tell him it is over. We made it, when I see the red in his eyes.
Damn it.
I reach into my pocket for the remote to control the collar, only to realize I have lost it. Jace growls as he looks at me, then he decides Simon is the better pray and launches himself onto him. Without thinking, I grab a solid metal statue from Valentine's desk and smacks Jace in the back of his head. Knocking him unconscious.
"Thanks..." Simon pants as we watch Jace on the floor. "Do you think he'll be himself when he wakes up?"
"I don't know. I hope so."
"What if we can't save him?" Simon asks. "Would we have to kill him?" His voice cracks at the word kill.
"No. absolutely not. We will cure him."
"Good." Simon looks at me and I can tell he has his doubts. "I don't want to lose him."
And I know Simon can't lose anymore. He has lost too much. He won't lose any more people. Not on my watch.
