Clary
My hands are still slightly tremoring as I follow Jace, Alec and Magnus into Jace's office. I think I somehow were even more scared witnessing this attack, than I were back when I was running for my life, a little less than a year ago. Thankfully I have Jace. He is so attentive to me, and even though Alec is currently giving him an update on their mission before the attack, he is stroking my back in calming circles.
"So, the mission was a success - for the most parts?" Jace sums up.
"If we don't include the attack we came home to, then yes. Although..." Alec shoots a look over his shoulder towards the closed door and then lowers his voice. "I found this. Posted on a building. The streets are covered with them."
He hands Jace some kind of paper. I can't see what's on it, but I can tell from Jace's expression, that it isn't something good. Jace hands the paper over to Magnus, who instantly turns pale.
"Oh my god..." he whispers under his breath. "This is... oh god... I can't stay here anymore."
"Magnus, what are you talking about. Of course, you can." Alec responds and takes the paper from Magnus' hands.
"No, I can't, Alec. I'm putting you in danger just by being here. I must leave." Magnus turns around and walks out the door. Alec sprints after him, grabs the collar on his shirt and yanks him back before slamming him up against the wall.
"You are not fucking going anywhere!"
Jace has stopped caressing my back and is watching the scene from a distance, but I can tell he is ready to engage if necessary.
"That's not up to you, Alexander."
"The fuck it is! You are not leaving! You are staying right here with us! With me."
"Alec..." Magnus tries to protest but Alec interrupts him.
"Over my dead body, Magnus!"
Alec's face is bright red, flushed with anger while Magnus' chest rises and falls quickly. I can't tell if it's because he is afraid of Alec or something else, but something is definitely going on between those two.
"This," Alec gestures with the paper in front of Magnus' face, "This doesn't mean shit, Magnus! I am not letting you go. Not now, not ever! Do you understand me?!"
A spark has appeared in Magnus's eyes during Alecs outburst.
"yes Alexander. I understand...." He responds while placing a hand on Alecs shoulder while locking his eyes onto Alecs. And just like that, all the anger seems to leave Alec's body. A visible change occurs in his posture, and he is no longer a raging threat. Even Jace relaxes and begins stroking my back again.
For a long time, the two men doesn't seem to notice anyone around them. Even though the spectacle has caused a lot of the others to gather around to see what is happening. But none of them notice. They just stand there, looking at each other silently. And that's when I realize that they must be in love. Even if they haven't realized it themselves yet.
