Magnus"So, basically Magnus' blood does hold the key to curing Anthroes, but in very small doses." Simon says to Alec.
"What does that mean?" Alec asks, glancing over at me while I'm donating blood to Simon's stock. I smile slightly at him before returning to stare at the needle in my arm. This is tedious. And I would much rather be in my room reading the diary I found. Still, I do hear the conversation between the two men, even though I don't pay much attention.
"It means that the amount of blood it requires to cure just one Anthroe would almost kill Magnus." Simon explains. "And then I haven't even begun to facture in things like how long a person has been infected. That could require an even bigger doses."
"So, you are saying that the only reason I was cured, was because I almost killed him." Alec's voice breaks, and that gets my attention. I reach out and take his hand.
"Unfortunately, yes. But this is still just in theory since I don't have enough blood to experiment with."
"What if I donate twice the amount as I do now?" I ask and Alec glares at me with a frown. Clearly, he doesn't like that idea.
"It would leave you in a very vulnerable state. I wouldn't recommend it."
"But it would give you a chance to test your theory, right?"
"Yes but..." Simon's gaze shifts between me and a very grumpy looking Alec. "I don't think it's worth the risk." He stutters, clearly affected by Alec's glare.
"Not worth the risk?" I raise my voice. "Of course, it's worth the risk! We could save people with this." I squeeze Alec's hand in mine. "Alexander, you know this research is more important than the fear of a possibility that I might faint."
"It's a bit more dangerous than that, Bane." Alec growls. I know he is mad when he uses my last name, but two can play that game.
"Well, Lightwood..." I mimic his tone, "that might be true, but my life isn't more important than all the other people wandering around out there."
"It is to me..." he whispers, and Simon slowly exits the room.
"I know... but this is important to me, Alexander. This could be the thing to change the world. I want to be a part of that."
"But..." Alec intervenes but I continue.
"And I'm doing this. With or without your permission." For a second, he just stares at me in disbelief. "But I would prefer that it was with your permission."
Alec sighs. I can tell he feels defeated.
"Simon!" he calls. "Get back in here. We need to plan out how to do this safely." Simon enters the room again with a grin on his face. He is just as pleased as me. "But I'm warning you," Alec pokes Simon in the chest, "if he dies, I'm throwing you out to the Anthroes. Do I make myself clear?"
