I've messed up. Big time.

We can hear the Anthroes moving around on the streets right outside of the apartment we are currently hiding in. I wanted to move everybody to a safe location, but now we are trapped. We are low on food and medical supplies and have no chance of getting out to find any. There's Anthroes around day and night. Luckily, they haven't found us yet, but it seems like they know we are around here somewhere. They are keeping watch for us. And we can't do anything about it.

If Jace where here, he would have found a way out of this situation. I don't doubt that for a second. But he isn't here. I'm all they've got, and I can't let them down.

"Simon, I need you to stay here and guard everyone." I whisper. "And Magnus, you are coming with me. We are going to find a way out of this shit situation."

Magnus and Simon both nod, so quietly Magnus and I gather our weapons and sneak out of the back. My heart is racing like crazy. This is insane. We are most likely going to get killed, but what choice do I have? If we don't do anything, we will starve. All of us.

"Alexander." Magnus whispers and puts a hand on my shoulder just as I'm about to move out from behind the building. "I love you..."

It almost sounds as goodbye to me. I guess he also knows how screwed we are.

"I love you too." I whisper back and kisses him softly. No tongue. Just my lips on his. Feeling the strong connection between us. Then I turn around, wait for the Anthroes to get closer before jumping out at them with my weapon drown. Magnus follows close by. Right now, we are both using knives. No bow. No gun. This need to be as silent as possible, so we don't alarm to many Anthroes at a time.

My blade digs straight into it's skull without it getting the time to scream.  Magnus is just as efficient. I gaze at him as he pierces his knife straight into the eye socket of another Anthroe. God, he is beautiful. Even covered in blood and guts, he just looks like a living god. I pray that this isn't the last time I get to spend with him. I need him to survive. And for me to survive, so I can get a chance of some kind of normal life with him. That is all I want. To grow old with him. To hold him close for the rest of my life.

Somehow, thinking about a potential future, ignites my will to fight. Though the odds aren't in our favor, we actually manage to kill every single Anthroe on the street in front of the apartment we are hiding in. I don't know how that happened, but I'm not questioning it. No, we quickly signal for Simon and the rest to come out and follow us. We have to take advantage of this opportunity right now. Or we will not get a chance like this again.

Slowly, but unfortunately not silent, we make our way through the streets. The sick people behind me are trying to hold back their coughing, but they can't. It won't take long before some new Anthroes notices us.
