"Come on Jace..." I mumble as I check the watch yet again. I know its my own fault he is preoccupied right now – I was the one who convinced Clary to talk to him – but had I known it would take this fucking long, I probably would have waited.

Since I have found out that Magnus is alive, I need to get him. I don't care if he is a part of the enemy. If he is a Protector; I just need him back in my life. We can deal with the radicalization later.

"For Christ sake..." I glare at the closed door, where I can hear the faint sound of laughing. I have no doubt that they are enjoining themselves, but I need to go. So, I decide to leave a note for Jace. Then he can join me when he is done.

I scribble down a note saying I've gone to the wall to scout out the location and that I promise I won't go into the City on my own. Which is almost true. If he is taking t0o long, I probably will anyway...

Quickly, I gather my things and head out. In my head, I keep repeating the plan. The stupid, suicidal plan my brother and I have agreed on. It's dangerous and is probably never going to work. But I can't sit around and do nothing.

As I approach the Wall, I notice a boat near the shore. The City has yet again banished some poor soul. I kneel into hiding and quickly scan the surroundings for Anthroes. And just as suspected, a bunch of them are lurking in the shadows near the water.

I decide to just stay here while I wait for Jace. I can't do anything for the Deviator anyway. Not when I'm alone and there is an entire pack of Anthroes lurking. I know it sounds cold and heartless, but that's the life in the Wasteland. We don't really have a choice if we want to survive.

I don't get to stay in my hiding spot for long, because suddenly something unexpected happens. Something I have never seen before. The Protectors in the boat seems to be going against each other. One of them hits the other with the paddle and then jump over the side of the boat.

"What the fuck...?" I mutter as I slowly stand up. This is crazy...

My heart begins to beat fast. My body understanding everything a lot faster than my mind. After all, who would possible betray the City and seek safety in the wasteland? That is an insane thing to do. Only one answer comes to mind.

Magnus.

Can it be true?

When I see the Protector suddenly turn around to get The Deviator that is drowning, it becomes very obvious to me. It is him. No one else would have such a big heart and risk their own life for someone their society has deemed a Deviator. It is him. I need it to be him.

Before I even have an opportunity to be logically about this and make a clever decision, I run to the shore with my weapon drawn. The Anthroes are still lurking in the shadows, waiting to attack as I make my way to the man, I believe is Magnus. My heart is racing, and I have never been this scared in my life. I can't lose him. Not again. Never again.

Arrow after arrow leaves the string on my bow, it flies through the air and pierces the creatures while I scream his name.

"ALEXANDER!" He replies and for a moment I forget how to use my bow. It's him. It's really him. No one else in the world would use my full name. No one but him has ever been allowed too.

"Run, Magnus. Faster!" I scream and instantly he speeds up, only to slow down slightly again. Damn it. It's that big heart of his that's getting in the way. That fucking slow Deviator behind him. Magnus won't abandon him.

Fuck.

I guess I need to save them both. Instead of running, I decide to stand my ground. I keep killing the Anthroes closest to them as fast as I possibly can, so I can provide Magnus with enough time to aim his weapon at The Anthroes.

Then, all I can do is hope that Magnus knows me as well as he used too and pick up on my intentions.

Luckily, it doesn't take long till he gets it. He looks back and when he can see that there is enough distance to the Anthroes for him to make a move, he turns around, kneels, and draws his weapon. As he keeps firing, the Deviator reaches me.

"Go! Run to that building there. Just inside there's a stairwell to the left. Go up and hide in the first room to the right. We'll be there in two minutes!"

The guy nods and runs directly towards the building.

Now I can focus on Magnus. Slowly, I move towards him while we are both still shooting.

"Magnus..." I whisper as I reach him, completely astounded that this is real. That Magnus is here. Alive and safe. Well almost, anyway.

Every fiber of my being wants to hold him, but I need to focus on the task at hand.

"I'm here," I say as I tap his shoulder. Slowly, he gets up and looks back at me. Because of his mask, I can only see his eyes, but something has changed since I saw him last. He is much more focused. Less confused.

I shake it off and concentrate on the task at hand.

"Magnus, I sent the Deviator to that building." I nod towards it. "Go find him. Then cover me from that window and I'll join you."

"No. I'm no leaving you here."

"It's okay Mags. I've done this before. I'll be fine. I promise." I look at him. "Trust me."

And he does. I can see it in his eyes. After slight hesitation he runs to the building. Fast as hell. Just as I remember him.
