"Flight 1122 to Seattle now boarding at Gate H6," I hear my flight being called over the intercom.
"This is it," I say to myself. I stood up, threw my duffel over my shoulder, and walked over to get in line to board my plane. I didn't get back to sleep last night after waking up from that nightmare. So, to say that I'm exhausted would be an understatement. I'm hoping that I'd be able to sleep on the plane, but with my fear of flying, that's wishful thinking on my part. I've always felt closer to death on a plane then I did in a car. After watching that movie, Final Destination, the one about the plane crash, it definitely made me feel differently about flying. When they finally let us start boarding, I let out another huge sigh. I showed the ticket attendant my ticket, then made my way through the boarding bridge. Not too many people on this flight today, so I was able to find my seat easily.
"Would you like anything before takeoff?" The flight attendant asks as I buckled myself in.
"Got any alcohol?" I asked, only half serious.
"Are you 21?" she asks.
"No,"
"Then sorry, no alcohol. But I can get you something else,"
"No thanks," I say to her. I couldn't help but give her a dirty look when she walked away. I needed alcohol just to get through this flight, but apparently, they're way strict about giving alcohol to minors. After everyone was finally on board, we were finally able to pull away from the gate.
After a long five-hour flight, we were finally landing at SeaTac airport. It was a relief to finally be back on the ground again. Thank God. I grabbed my duffel from the overhead compartment and headed toward the exit. After exiting the plane, I pulled my phone from my pocket and powered it back up. I've had several messages, mostly from Tim and Teddy. I had one message from Alex wishing me a Merry Christmas and to have fun with my family. I decided to read the rest of my messages later since I would see my brother and Teddy here just a few. I slid my phone back in my pocket and made my way through the crowded airport. It was so much busier here than it was in Indianapolis. Which didn't really surprise me, being that it's four days before Christmas. When I couldn't find my brother, I pulled my phone back out and tried to call him. He never answered so I called Teddy instead. She picked up on the first ring.
"Hey there," She greets. I could hear noises of people in the background so she must be somewhere where it's crowded.
"Hey, is Tim picking me up?" I ask her, "I can't find him and he's not answering his phone,"
"No. I'm the one picking you up. You didn't check your messages? Wait, what am I saying, you never check your messages," She jokes.
"Oh, you're real funny," I say sarcastically, "Where are you?"
"I'm over by the baggage claim," she says to me. Phone still up to my ear, I walk in the direction of the baggage claim. Apparently, she saw me before I saw her because next thing I know, I hear my name being called. "Arizona over here," I hear Teddy shout. I look in the direction on where the voice was coming from, and I finally see her raising her arms to get my attention. I smile, then hung up the phone and made my way towards her. "Oh, my god, it's so good to have you home," She says, pulling me into a tight hug, "How was the flight?"
"The flight was okay. Very bumpy," I say, cringing at the thought of the turbulence we all suffered. She just laughs and takes my duffel from me, and we make our way towards the exit.
"So, is Tim excited?" I ask her, climbing into the passenger seat of her jeep.
"Oh, you have no idea. Ever since you told him you were coming home for Christmas; he hasn't shut up about it. Oh, speaking of, we have a surprise for you,"
