This New Feeling

So my wonderful friend nice_book_i_aprove gave me permission to write one of their stories with my spin on it so here is this. It was fun writing this! Hope you enjoy💕

Night time was the loudest time on board the Moon Maiden's Curse. This was something you had learned from observing the men on board for the past three days. At this time the men were relaxing from the day's work. Dinner, drinks and drunk fights. You weren’t sure if you enjoyed watching a bunch of pirates bitch slap each other, but it was the most entertaining thing on board.

Either that or you could always watch Shay tell his stories. But regardless of what shenanigans Shay was up to, you could always  rely on hearing him singing himself to sleep later that night. You always wanted to sing for them or at least be of better entertainment than Captain Silvertounge telling his pirate tales, but the fear of your siren’s curse getting to the men and causing them harm outweighed any want for you to sing.

However, one thing you did have to give to Shay was that he was very expressive when telling stories. He would use his hands to illustrate the battles of the late Pirate King against some sea monster. His silly expressions, hand movements and acting out the sword battles almost made it worthwhile.

In any other case you would’ve been offended because the said “sea monster” was probably just a poor octopus in pain. However it was something to distract you from cleaning something. Living with pirates wasn’t as clean as being the servant to the merfolk of Aquince.  The royal brats of Aquince were very demanding when it came to having a clean space. They weren’t really clean freaks, that was just their way of making their servants as miserable as possible.

Oh the Aquince tyrants. Every merfolk in Aquince either hated them or loved them. They were the reason sirens were seen as men killing beasts, beautiful yet dangerous beings. All because of Bianca. She was beautiful yet hideous at the same time. All the beauty in the world wouldn’t make up for the fact that inside she was a miserable being. She did lose her mother, but that wasn’t an excuse for her to be so mean.

The only Aquince you could get along with quite nicely was Bren. Technically you weren’t supposed to know of his existence. One day you just opened a closet and saw him cramped inside. Apparently this was his “room”, since you were new to being a servant at that time you didn’t know that. Or that looking inside that closet was forbidden.

You felt horrible that the seventh born Aquince was being treated like this, so from that day on you would bring him small forms of entertainment. Books, games, even more enjoyable food then the shit they gave him.

You weren’t friends, but you weren’t strangers. You got along quite nice, but you only had limited time until you had to get back to your duties before someone realized something was up. That’s why you only stuck around for short conversations. You got to know him, he was entertained and everything was alright.

Until it wasn’t. One day you were met by an overly happy Bren. You thought it strange since he had scars on his back  from being Bellamy and Edward’s target for playing darts, and his back was still bleeding. But something else was on the young Aquince’s mind. While you patched him up he told you of his adventure from the night before. He met a human on the surface.

“Bren, a human?”

“Yeah. They’re pretty nice. They’re gonna get me a moonbell for my mark. I read in one of the books that you got me that moonbells have healing properties for things like this,” he said, showing you the mark on his neck.

You knew this was from King Lucius. He had put it on Bren in order to stop him from ever getting away. Or at least leave the ocean. If he never left the ocean, then regardless of where he went he would always be found. This was a sick move on the king’s behalf.
