You were messing around with things you probably shouldn’t be. If Soren knew you were messing with his crystals he’d blow up at you. You’d only been there for a couple of days, but it was easy to tell that in that cave the thing he valued most was his crystals.
“Dove? You there?” The sound of Soren’s approaching voice startled you. It made you jump and knock over the crystal. Crapppppppp. Soren’s gonna kill me.
You could hear him sigh at the sound of the crystal shattering. The third one this week. It was irritating for him to say the least, but for whatever reason he still put up with you. You were surprised he hadn’t kicked you out, and let you fend for yourself. After all it wasn’t his problem that Alvira was so screwed and you had to marry a boring librarian.
“What did you do, Dove?” He walked in, and his face changed when he saw that the crystal shattered, was in fact… his favorite one.
“Hi~” You smiled innocently.
“Ugh.. The one thing I told you not to do.. Is the first thing you do. Of course it is.” He rubbed his temples.
“Okay listen, at least I didn’t set the place on fire. That’s actually happened before.” Soren just looked at you, clearly regretting his life decisions. You couldn’t blame him for it either. You knew you could be a real handful sometimes. You really did owe alot to Soren.
“Why don’t I find that hard to believe. Right, so what do you have any plans for tonight?” Soren asked. You simply looked at him with a crooked eyebrow.
“Soren, I’m running away from an arranged marriage in Alvira, while hiding here while my broken wing heals… No, I don't have plans tonight.” You were being extremely sarcastic.
“Alright so.. I have to speak to you. Tonight. I have to go out, to get more medicine and things like that. But I couldn’t leave before telling you something.” He was hiding his face away from you. You couldn’t tell it was from shame, embarrassment, anger, or sadness, but nevertheless you could only hope for the best. Who truly knew anything with Soren?
“Right.. So.. Can we speak after we eat? I kinda have to clean this up, plus I’m starving~” You whined.
Soren only rolled his eyes at you, but made his way to what was supposed to be the kitchen. As he got something started over there, you grabbed the broom and started sweeping the shattered pieces of the crystals.
“Soren?” You called to him.
“Hmm~” He hummed back.
“What.. What would you like me to do with this?” You gestured at the pile of clumped up crystals.
“Oh yeah, keep them right there. I’ll either glue them back together with gold or make jewelry with it.” Your eyes started to glow with amazement. It was the first time you have ever been so interested in something.
“You reuse them?” You asked in utter awe.
“Well yes, I mean I’m not just going to let them sit there. Why would I when I can make something wonderful with them? Especially not with that one. That one was a gift from Auntie Madalyn. That one’s sentimental.” The weight of both the crystal and the pressure in your chest increased. Suddenly the crystal was worth more than anything you’ve ever held. More than your own life. And the increasing pressure in your chest was due to the guilt that had arisen. You had broken something valuable.
You wanted to cry from the weight of what had been done. You could only imagine how valuable it was to Soren. And now it was in pieces.
“I-I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to Soren. If I had known what it was, I- I wouldn’t have even touched it. And now it’s in pieces, because of me.” Your voice started to tremble, but you weren’t crying.
