You ran out of your house with a trail of tears marking your cheeks. It was a normal occurrence at this point. You would run away from the shouting that was inside your house. You couldn't stand the sound of your parents fighting yet it was something that became a normal thing. You wished it wasn't like that. You wanted everything to be the way it used to be.
You would run and run until your legs grew tired. You would run until you were at the lake again. The sound of the flowing lake always brought you comfort, but when the sun came out once again, it would make everything look so .. beautiful.
You loved watching the sunrise, and the sunsets. Oftentimes they were the center of your paintings back at home. You loved the warm colors and the captivating views that you would often see here at this lake.
Everytime your parents fought you would come to this lake and fall asleep under the stars. Sure they were beautiful but they couldn't compare the beauty of the biggest star in the sky.
And that's how you met him. You weren't expecting anything to change on this night. It would be the same story, you would fall asleep until the sun kissed your forehead, telling you to wake up because it was time to admire the beauty in the sky.
But this time, you awoke to a man before you. He had orange markings all over his body, and a bright smile on his face. You looked into his orange eyes and instantly knew he wasn't human.
Although your first instinct would've been to jump back, you felt safe there. You waved at him and returned the warm smile.
"H-Hi!" he just stared at your hand before returning the gesture.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to disturb you. I- I shouldn't be here.. sorry." He got up and started running towards the other end of the forest, but you stopped him.
"Hey! Where are you going?! Come back!" You shouted.
You raced after him until you managed to run fast enough to grab his arm. That was when he stopped. He turned to look at you, and examined your face just as he was before when you were asleep earlier.
"You- You have beautiful eyes. Has anyone ever told you that?" he said abruptly, his remark made you blush and stare at him in awe.
"I- mmm.. No. But thanks." You said.
He gasped suddenly, "You have a beautiful smile too.. something I couldn't see when you were asleep-" he stopped realizing how creepy that sounded.
"As in like.. I- um, look I don't mean to be weird or anything, but I see you come out here to this lake, and you always have tears streaming down your face. It isn't until the sun rises that I actually see your smile." he looked down at the ground in embarrassment.
"What I mean is that, I don't like it that everytime I see you.. you're never happy until you wake up." He said.
"Well thank you." You beamed, "But I've never seen you around here. How is it that you see me here every night?" You asked.
"Oh that.. well I suppose there is no hiding it from you anymore now is there. Well fine, my name is Rex, and I know this is hard to believe, so I don't blame you if you don't believe me, but I am the divine of the sun. In other words I'm a god." He smiled sheepishly as if he had just told you that he broke something.
You stood there with your jaw dropped. You believed him of course, you knew there was something.. not human about him.
"A god?! Of the sun?" He waved at you as if to say yep you heard it right.
"You've been coming to the lake since last month, I saw you from the sun. I have seen you crying here and I- I thought to come down here and.. um.. watch over you.." he fidgeted with his fingers and didn't look you in the eyes.
