“Pffft- you suck at this game, Cam.” You teased.
“Maybe I don’t suck. What if I’m just.. Um.. What if I’m letting you win?” Cam defended himself, but you knew it was a bluff.
Now that you had figured out that Cam lived just down the street from you, you have been seeing a lot more of him. Either you were at his house, or he was at yours, which was more likely. Cam really didn’t want you to move with that broken leg of yours.
You were grateful for his company, considering that the school also put you on online schooling. It was lonely. You lived alone, and now you couldn’t socialize with people at school. Sometimes you couldn’t help but feel left out. Even with Cam.
You knew he gave you all his free time, but you wished you could interact with him all the time, at home and at school. Heck you even missed prom because of it. And it was apparent that you missed a lot, seeing as how Zeke and his partner came out of that night.
Just then your phone rang, a notification crossing the screen that made your heart stop.
Hey loser, I’m in town for the weekend. Would you want to hang out with me? If so I’m staying at my ma’s house for the time being.
- Nate
“Nate! Oh, fuck! I forgot he was coming over for the weekend!” You got up quickly, but fell back down due to your injury.
“Woah, woah, woah, slow down! You’re gonna get hurt! Wait, who even is this Nate guy?” Cam quickly got up to help you.
“Oh, Nate? Yeah he’s my best friend from years ago. It’s been a good three years since I’ve seen him, so this is kind of a big deal. Now I need to get to his mom’s house or I might not get another chance to see him.. but I can’t drive.” You came to the sudden realization that your injury would probably force you to go on foot.
Cam hesitated for a second, “I can take you if you want.”
Your eyes lit up, “Really? Cam, that’d be wonderful! I- Thank you so much!” You gave him a hug.
“Oh! Well yeah, it’s no big deal! Come on, let’s get you in my car. What 's the address?”
****************************************************************************
You tried to get out of the car as soon as Cam’s car stopped. However he held your hand to stop you, “No, let me help you.” You rolled your eyes, but accepted his help.
As soon as you knocked on the door, a boy with red hair, freckles, and yellow eyes opened the door. You instantly let go of Cam and hugged Nate.
“Nate! I missed you so much!” You almost wanted to cry at how long it’s been since you saw him last.
“Hey, I missed you too, loser.” He whispered, but his eyes widened upon seeing Cam. “Oh, I see you brought company?”
“Oh, yeah, this is my friend, Cam. He came with me because he was worried about me going out with my injury.” You gestured towards your broken leg.
“Dang, I didn’t even realize you broke your leg. What happened? Oh- mind my manners, Cam was it?” At the mention of his name Cam turned to look Nate in the eyes for the first time, but the usual friendliness wasn’t there, instead there was a bittersweet emotion dancing around in his eyes. Cam nodded yes. “Ah right, I’m Nathanel, but my friends call me Nate.”
“I’m Cameron, but everyone calls me Cam.” He introduced himself.
“Okay, well now that introductions are over, can we come inside?” You asked, but you were already halfway through the doorway.
