The Way It Was Meant To Be

Your life was taking a great turn. All of a sudden your life wasn’t crap anymore. You weren’t living in fear anymore, you weren’t being cut short of your needs and most importantly, you were finally happy.  However with that you could also see that Theo himself wasn’t exactly happy.

It’s not that he wasn’t happy, it was that he was stressed. You could see it on his face when he would smile. Instead of seeing a genuine smile. You would see one covering the fear. It made sense, Theo was used to living with his brother. Even though you had never met Hammond you assumed that he had been the only person who had been there for Theo.

But the biggest slap in the face was finding out that Hammond had been the only person there for Theo, because their parents were taken from them. Hammond had raised Theo. Logically being without Hammond for so long was taking its toll on Theo. But how stressful and sacrificial was it for Hammond? Exactly what had he sacrificed in order to give Theo a nice and comfortable life?

Just like you. But it was best for the past to remain in the past. Now you have different priorities. Like caring for Theo. Not that he was your responsibility now, it’s just that you were concerned. Every now and then Theo would go out for hours on end to search for Hammond. Sometimes he wouldn’t come home until late at night.

On those nights you would refuse to go to sleep until he came home. For one you were scared that something would happen to him, and then you were  the one who couldn’t sleep in peace. And for two, ever since the night in the cave, you found yourself not being able to sleep unless you were cuddling a certain half bear. Unfortunately for you, today was one of those nights.

“I’m going out little angel.” Theo was up rather early,

By this time you had learned that he valued his sleep, so him being up at nine was a huge step. He was usually up three in the afternoon. He was certainly a heavy sleeper, but by six he was already out looking for Hammond.

“Aw.. Well no don’t get me wrong, Of course I want you to find your brother, I know how much he means to you, but I don’t.. I don’t like being left alone for so long.” You sorta pouted.

“I’m really sorry little angel, if you like you can come with me. But why didn’t you tell me? I wasn’t bringing you with me because I thought I was uh- burdening you with that.” Theo said, sheepishly.

“Burden? Excuse me? Since we got to the Sanctuary you have been a huge pile of anxiety. You’ve been constantly going out to search for your brother. Some days you don’t even come home until really late at night. And sometimes.. Sometimes I miss you.” you turned around to hide the blush that was lining your cheeks.

“Aw, little angel I- I don’t know what to say. Do you really notice all of these things? I’m so sorry, I should’ve asked you sooner. But it would mean alot to me if you did get to meet him. Hammond is a big part of my life, and now so are you. So go get ready little angel, I’ll wait for you.” he sat down on the pile of cushions you had slept on the night before, as you raced off to get changed into more comfortable clothes.

*time skip y’all*

At this point you and Theo had been looking for Hammond for about three hours. Theo had suggested to venture off away from the sanctuary so that there would be a bigger chance of finding Hammond. By now the sanctuary wasn’t even in sight.

You weren’t sure how Theo went on until midnight on some occasions. It wasn’t nearly as dark as it usually was when Theo would come back. And the determination on Theo’s face wasn’t getting any dimmer. It was still burning as bright as it was when he found you on the beach.
