You woke up to the sound of people outside. It was quite different from the quiet morning you were used to spending in the city. However, In your condition you couldn’t really complain.  The walls of the tent made it easy to hear the conversations outside. But it also made it easy to hear the footsteps outside. And at this moment you could hear someone heading for your tent.

You weren’t sure if you should play to be asleep or be wide awake to receive your “guest” even though technically you were the guest here in the barbarian’s territory. At last you decided it’d be best to be wide awake, and right on time as someone had stepped inside your tent.

“Captain? Oh we didn’t wake you did we?” it was Erik.

"Huh? Oh no I was already awake.” You didn’t know exactly how else to react. After Erik had saved you and your men from dying you were in great debt to him, but everytime you wanted to do something for him in return he always turned it down.

It was always “No worries, I was just doing what I’m sure you would’ve done for me as well.”  and quite honestly you couldn’t tell if his kindness warms your heart or your cheeks more.

At this point you couldn’t deny it. You were in love with Chief Erik. You had fallen in love with him ever since you crossed blades with each other. And your encounters with the trade prince only reassured your feelings for Erik.

That man was not in any way a prince. He was more of a brat with a noble title. Erik was really the prince charming of your dreams. He was showing you intense kindness. the way he cared for you and your troops after he found all of you wounded. Not to mention he looked great to you physically as well.

“Captain? Are you ok? Are you sure you don’t need anything? More rest, medicine?” He snapped his fingers to get your attention.

“Huh? Oh sorry I was staring off into space again, wasn’t I? But now that you mention it, can I see my men? I want to see just how bad of an effect the attack had on us.”

“Yeah, you can. Huh you’d be surprised. These men held themselves together rather nicely. Maybe the royal guards aren’t a match for your men. Here come with me.” he put out his hand for you to grab.

You were more than willing to take it. Your body was still aching in pain. The knights really made it a point to attack you. It was obvious this attack could also be something personal against you. And you already knew what it was about.

A week before the ambush the trade prince shot his shot yet again. But this time was much more extreme. He pulled out the most beautiful ring you had ever seen and he went on one knee. He proposed to you. Obviously you turned him down, but he wouldn't take that no lightly. Especially because you had humiliated him in front of his own people.

For the next week his proposal was still consistent. Until one day he didn’t even show up. Back then a wave of relief passed over you, but now you realize the reason he hadn’t shown up was because that was the day of the  ambush.

Now just thinking of him makes you angry.

Enough of the prince. For now you just wanted to go see how much damage he had made and depending on how bad it was, how hard you had to punch him in the face as well.

On your way to the healers tent, multiple people who you didn’t even know greeted you as if you were a celebrity. You had met some of these people and recognized most of them from the party weeks before. You just waved back because you felt ashamed of not remembering some of their names.

When  you got to the healers tent the first thing you saw were the healers helping the less injured men. From what you could assume, they had taken care of your more wounded men first last night. Now the healers were caring for your less injured men, women and children. Everyone was caught in the ambush. Even the families of your soldiers. And that enraged you more than anything
