You spun around in your outfit. Something fit for royalty, according to Cal, but then again he would say that about anything you would wear. Today was the day of the annual ball of Queen Victoria Lynn!
The annual ball of Queen Victoria was your favorite ball of the year for one reason; It was a ball in honor of your late mother. The ball would happen every year the same day she passed in honor of her joyful, carefree memory.
It was always hard. Remembering that on that exact day, the woman who had always been there for you, the woman who had been your rock was gone. Your fondest memories, your earliest memories, both had one thing in common, they were filled with the warm kiss on the forehead, the tight, comforting hugs, and the wise words that would carry you through the hardest moments of your life.
That woman was gone. But it was up to the entire kingdom to remember her memory with fondness. That was the entire purpose of the ball. But this year there was another reason why you were excited to attend the annual ball. On this particular day, you and Cal were going to announce your engagement to the kingdom!
It was a moment you had been dreading your entire life. Announcing your engagement had been a not so happily awaited moment since you were young, but now that it was Cal that you were engaged to, you couldn't help but smile at the foreseeable future.
You were marrying the man of your dreams. The man who had been beside you, your whole life. And the best part is that it wasn't arranged or forced. Nor could your father do anything in order to stop it, now that Cal was a noble, you were free to do as you wish.
However your father still hadn’t warmed up to the idea of you marrying a… former knight. What was worse was that Cal wasn’t just anyone. Cal was the son of your father’s adviser. Meaning your father and his were close friends. So why was he so against you marrying him?
Regardless, now he had no say in it. Now Cal was a noble. But that wasn’t true. Cal wasn’t a noble. He was born a commoner, and then became a knight. However, his father’s position as a prime adviser made his quality of living as a child much better than an average commoner.
And that was one thing that you loved about him. He wasn’t stuck up, even though he was better off than the other kids he probably grew around. And he was willing to work for his outcome. That is how he became one of the best knights.
A knock on the door made you jump a little, “Love? Are you ready? People are about to arrive.”
“Hmm? Oh, yeah. I’ll be there in a second!” You took a look in the mirror one last time.
“This is for you mom.” You whispered as you kissed a picture of your late mother that sat on the dresser.
You walked out of your bedroom. Immediately, the sweet strong scent that you had grown to link with Cal hit your senses. And sure enough, there he was. Nicely groomed, and well dressed.
“Wow~ you clean up well, Mr. Martinet.” You smirked, grabbing onto his arm.
“What can I say, announcing the news of my engagement to the most gorgeous being to have ever graced this planet is a big enough occasion for me to dress up for.” He winked. You blushed deeply, causing a laugh to escape Cal’s lips.
“Alright then, let’s not keep our guest waiting, shall we, dear?” Cal held out his hand, gesturing for you to take it. When you did take it, he placed a gentle kiss on your hand.
“We shall, Sir Cal.”
