At first it was a job interview that had drawn you to Sapphire City. As a newly graduated full fledged nurse, you figured that it would be easier to find the kickstart to your career in a bigger city than it would be in Westhaven. And you were correct for the most part. You had gotten the job, and even the night shift as you had wanted, but Sapphire had proved to be a much more dangerous city than what you had initially thought. If it werent for Ryan constantly saving you, you wouldve taken it as a sign that Sapphire wasnt the right city for you.
Speaking of Ryan It was hard to remember when the lines were blurred between a temporary stay and staying for an extended amount of time. You would tell yourself that it was just for the time being. That you were looking for an apartment to rent.. And though it wasnt a lie, there was something in you stopping you from actually getting a place.
Every time you thought you had found the place, looked over your list of requirements and checked out all the boxes, you found the smallest detail from letting you get the place. Oh the shower is too small, or the walls look too thin. But those were all excuses and you knew it. If you were completely honest with yourself none of those things were the ones that were stopping you. It was Ryan.
Sure, Sapphire had proven to be a dangerous city, and you would feel so lonely without him, but that wasnt the complete reason. It was that well.. You had.. Feelings for him. It was hard for you to realize when the lines were blurred between the initial platonic feelings you had towards him, to the now newly found romantic feelings inside you.
You couldnt help it, the daydreams, the laughter, the light blush on your face anytime you held prolonged eye contact. He was truly the sweetest person you had ever met. He was so brave, so kind, so charming. It was impressive such a genuine person like him would come from a family like the Bowes.
Not that the Bowes were bad people.. No not by a long shot. It was more so his sister that seemed like the black sheep when you really thought of it. She was so mean. So bratty. She carried herself with a horrible negative cattiness.
You recalled meeting Kathryn Bowe on multiple occasions, (Most of them at town held events) and the one thing that never changed was the fact that she was a bitch. She was beautiful, that was undeniable, but that beauty was almost completely wiped out by her huge ego, and bitchy attitude. You found it incredibly hard to believe that Kathryn and Ryan were siblingsfrom the same parents.
Granted, Mayor Bowe was nowhere as bad as her daughter. You had met Mayor Bowe twice. Both occasions had to do with your graduation from high school. Of course the first time it was when Mrs. Bowe gave a speech to all the students graduating from high school, where she was one of the people who would shake your hand after you got your diploma and so on. On that day she came off as a genuinely nice, caring, and thoughtful person, who was there not only because she was forced to, but because she cared.
The second time was similar to the first. You were always a great student. School in general just came to you so easily. So it came as a surprise to nobody that you graduated with honors. As a celebration for your academic achievement, everyone who had also graduated with honors was invited to do something special with the mayor. There was another big speech given by the mayor, as well as personalized letters written by the mayor herself. She came around and personally congratulated everyone.
The one thing that stands out to you now, is the fact that that same day was her sons birthday. Apparently she had taken him with her so that they could have some sort of celebration afterwards for his birthday. But that didnt stop him from having fun with all the newly graduated students. You remember bumping into Ryan. Being completely enamored with him, and then constantly giving him glances from across the venue. Glances that he flirtatiously returned.
