A/N:This was a story I wrote a long time ago, but I didn't really feel satisfied with it. I've gone and made some changes, so here it is. enjoy!
You watched with adoring eyes, out towards the deck. There the sight of your siblings playing with Shays under the night sky met your eyes. It had been roughly a week since you got your siblings back, and three days since Shay bought his siblings back.
At first you were a little scared that your siblings and Shays wouldnt get along, or even worse, that his siblings wouldnt be exactly comfortable with a family of merfolk joining their family. However, as soon as Melina and Thomas set their eyes upon your family, their eyes widened with curiosity, and awe.
"Really, Shay? Merfolk? Like.. Real merfolk?" Melina asked, enthusiastic, when you first met her.
Melina was 17, with long wavy brown hair, and blue eyes. Though she was older than Thomas, she still had a very childish spark. Thomas said that was unusual, as being the older of the two, she was usually more nurturing, but what else can you expect from a child who had her entire childhood taken from her.
Thomas was also childish, but he had the same charisma, and charm that Shay had. The boy looked exactly like Shay, but younger, and with shorter hair. For all its worth he was 14. But what made everything much more heartbreaking was the realization that Thomas, being the youngest, had practically never known a life without pain or struggle.
Your siblings on the other hand, were at Thomas age, or younger. So needless to say, there was laughter left and right, this past week.
"Yes, a merfolk. An entire family of them. Anddd~ this here," Shay pulled you in by the waist,"This is my sweet little Angelfish." He kissed your cheek, causing you to yank away playfully.
That was three days ago. And now, you are heading to the life of your dreams. A life filled with safety, love, comfort, and your family. Though you had to admit that the thought of crossing the Dark Depths made you anxious. But if it was for your family.. for your future together, then the trip should be worth it.
For now, you decided to take your mind off of that. After all, Shay did say he had an important announcement to make. He was being extremely secretive about it, he didnt even tell you what said announcement was.
Just as the thought crossed your mind, Shay called everyone to the deck. Or everyone that was left from the original crew, your siblings, his own, and himself.
"Well, aint this a sight. Look at all of us, heading somewhere better, to start our new lives. Actually now that I think about it, I think we all, and that includes our crewmates that arent with us anymore, owe this to my dear Angelfish." He suddenly placed all the attention on you.
"Oh. Me? No, jeez Shay, I- I dont know what to say." You stuttered.
He pulled you close, just like how he did, that same day you met his siblings. "My love, roughly a month ago you changed my life for the better, when I.. fished you for lack of a better term." He was only half joking, "Then you made me have a better look on things with how kind you are even when you went through the same things I had. How hardworking you are. How your beautiful scales shine when you tilt your head like that whenever you're confused" Now rather than holding you by the waist, with his chest to your back, he turned you around to have you right in front of him.
"I owe all of this to you. We all do. You were the one who found our riches. And it was you who gave them to me, yourself being an afterthought. Youre extremely selfless, and I think I love that most about you. W- what Im trying to say is.." For the first time, Shay had a slight blush on his face, as if he was the one who had been teased. He grabbed your hand.
