Everyone was off of the initial shock. It was hard to believe that a book had taken you into a different dimension. And what was more shocking was seeing a half bull hybrid as soon as you wake up. Or at least it had been for a few of your friends. Thankfully Mel, Zeke, Judah, and Cam seemed to have gotten along with Duke pretty well, and quickly too.
Although it was pretty hard getting some of the others on board. Mainly Keyon. If anything he still didn’t like Duke.
It has been several weeks now and you still couldn’t get Duke and Keyon to get along. They had gotten into six fights and counting. You hated seeing them both fight. Thankfully nothing had been violent yet. But knowing Key’s impulsive nature, it was only a matter of time.
Sadly for you. Today was one of those days where you had to play peacemaker.
“Oh~ I’m sorry that you have to be such a smartass-!” Key shouted.
“Keyon Hill!” You yelled at him. “Can’t you at least try to get along with Duke? Come on! Now isn’t the time to get into a petty argument. Now that there's nine of us here, we actually have to find a way to get back home.” You reasoned.
“What? Actually? As in, you weren’t looking for a way to get back before?” Key had a hurt puppy expression on his face.
“I-I-” You stuttered. “Well, honestly no. I didn’t care much for it. If I got to go back home then that’d be fine with me, but if I didn’t.. Well honestly I didn’t, no, I don’t mind staying here.”
“Hm. So what? If we find a way back home, what? Are you going to come with us? Are you going to leave your parents at home worried sick about you? Are you going to stay here with this half-”
“Keyon!” Mel smacked him on the arm, and gave him a firm glare.
“What?” He glared back, then moved his glare to Duke. “You can’t stay. What about your education? You’re a good student, and we’re almost done with school. You need to come back and finish that. You have family, friends back at home. Please come back with us.” He pleaded with you.
“Key… I don’t know. I- Duke needs me too.” Duke put his hand on your shoulder, you put your hand over his. “I- he, he needs me as much as I need him. Key, if I go, I can assure you, I’ll probably be depressed for a while. I’ll go back to my old..” You hesitated. “habits.” You looked down ashamed.
“We can get you help, we can..” His face fell. He knew he probably wasn’t going to convince you.
“Fine, I won’t argue further. It 's your choice. Besides, we don't even know if it’s possible.” Mel patted his shoulder.
“It’s fine Key, we’ll find a way. I’m sure we will. We have to get back home. It’ll look suspicious if all eight of us went missing inside the school.” She turned to you. “At least with you, your disappearance could’ve been put back to a normal disappearance. It’s a greater threat when all eight of us went missing at the same time.
“Mhmm. Precisely why we have to find a way to get you all back. If we don’t, they’ll probably put out a search for all of us. Probably even me.” You said.
“At least y’all have parents that care for y’all. I bet my old man wouldn’t bat an eye when he realizes I went missing.” Zeke appeared at the frame of the living room door, leaning on it.
“Oh Zeke, don't say that. I’m sure Mr. Graves will care. Or at least someone will.” Judah said he came from the other room, behind the staircase.
“Pfft- Yeah someone will care, but not my dad.”
“About Mr. Graves.” Jace came out of the same room that Judah was in. Judah, Noah, and Jace were sharing the same room. You felt bad for Judah for having to sleep in the same place as those assholes. Still, you tense at the sight of Jace, the events of three months prior flooding back. It appeared Keyon wasn’t the only one that Duke despised. Ever since he’d seen the panic on your face when they all fell from the sky, a stronger, deeper hatred was rooted for him.
