⚠️TW!! BLOOD + MENTIONS OF INSANITY!!⚠️
Lucinda
Fortunately, all the hard work wasn't for nothing.
However, I felt myself flinch the smallest bit seeing Zizzy punch Officer Poley down to the ground. There was blood all over the room, the other infected bodies and the zebra in the room. I had to restrain myself from running to check to see if Poley was okay. The red glow in his eyes told me that he was infected. After a few moments, Zizzy turned and noticed Pony and I, and her serious expression changed to a smile.
"Pony! Cindy! It's so nice to see you again!" She cheered happily. She was about to run up to us, but she remembered that there was blood all over her. She chuckled nervously and rubbed the back of her head, knowing that we were staring at the havoc she caused in the small room. "You won't believe the amount of infected I've knocked out today. I even started to enjoy doing it!" She explained with a smile, her hat slightly askew on her head.
"Zizzy! I'm so relieved to know you're okay!" Pony replied with a hand on his chest. I kept my blank expression as I turned around to see if anyone was stalking us. Fortunately, there wasn't anyone there, but that didn't mean that there wouldn't be anyone here later. "Um...I hate to ruin the happy moment we've got going on here," I began. "But we should probably get out of here. Those guys out there may have the IQ of rocks, but they'll definitely find out that something went wrong here sooner or later."
Pony's expression changed to one of slight seriousness as he nodded. "You're right, Cindy, we should definitely get out. Come on, Zizzy!" Pony turned back to Zizzy with an encouraging look as he gestured for her to follow us out. Zizzy nodded before giving us a slightly pained expression. "Ah, hang on," she said. "I think I may have pulled a muscle." She moved her arm to inspect it, and what I saw made my heart drop down to the ground.
A dark, red and bloody scratch was on Zizzy's arm.
"Oh."
Pony seemed just as concerned as I was. His eyes widened the slightest bit as his lips trembled. My eye widened a bit, too. "That's not...that's not from an infected, is it?" He asked desperately while shaking his head. Zizzy seemed just as shocked as we were to see the scratch on her arm. "I..." she trailed off and closed her eyes. Her fists clenched before she opened her eyes to look at us with a serious yet sad expression. "You two need to leave."
I knew it.
I was right once again.
I was right to not warm up to anyone at the Safe Place. I was right to stay cold to everyone I came across. I was right to expect something like this to happen. I was right to mentally prepare myself for situations like these the last eight months. I was right to overwork myself day and night. I was right to keep my secrets from them. I was right to not believe anything they said. I was right to trust my gut feeling when it gave me the only advice I could rely on at the time.
I... was right!
"We're not going anywhere without you. We can get you help!" Pony partially cried with tears in his eyes. I couldn't blame him. While Rose's demise came to her in an instant, I would feel the same way back then if I was in Pony's shoes. "What help, Pony?" Zizzy argued. She seemed to be in the same state as Pony. The only one who wasn't crying was me. I simply stared at her with wide eyes and lips pressed into a thin line.
"We'll find a cure, we can save you!" Pony pressed on. Zizzy had already accepted her fate and was trying to get Pony and I to accept it, too. Little did she know that I was too proud of myself. "If there was a cure, we wouldn't even be here, Pony," she replied, her voice raising slightly. "You don't want to see me turn into one of them, so go. I'll create a distraction and sabotage as much as I can while you escape."
