⚠️TW!! BLOOD!!⚠️
Lucinda
"Seven... twenty-two..."
I turned to the infected bear while keeping my gun pointed at him. "Don't even think about it," I muttered to him, knowing that he wouldn't respond. Fortunately, he seemed obedient and stayed put. With that, I sighed and went back to writing in my journal. I had been wandering around the ship for a while when I heard some strange music coming from the room I was currently in. Upon further inspection, I realized that it was coming from a radio inside of said room.
In addition to my writing, I also had my phone sitting on the table recording the audio. Turns out, it ended up being a good thing that I chose to record it because a male voice started speaking in addition to the female saying numbers, and it made no sense whatsoever. I assumed that it was speaking backwards and kept listening in on the radio's audio. "Four... seven... twelve... eleven... eleven... twenty-two... twenty-three..." the female voice went on as I kept writing and recording.
More of that guy's weird voice.
In all honesty, I had no idea what the numbers meant, but if this radio was playing them, that meant they had some sort of meaning to them. With every number the female said, I wrote it down and recorded it. Eight, nineteen, twenty-two, fourteen, all of them. My hand was starting to hurt from all the writing and gun holding, but I forced myself to push through. Eventually, after a few more minutes of writing, the radio gradually started to turn off. Soon, the room was filled with nothing but silence.
I finally put my mechanical pencil down before closing my journal and stopping the recording on my phone. I grabbed all three objects with one hand before moving my finger to the trigger of the gun in my other hand. "Your cooperation has been very much appreciated," I muttered to the bear without turning my gaze in his direction. "But you're an infected, so I can't let you go. I hope you can try to understand. I'm sorry."
With that, I pulled the trigger.
More blood got on my clothes and face. Of course. I didn't even bother to wipe it off or look at the damage I caused as I put my gun back in its holster and used the hand that was once holding it to handle the other items I had taken out earlier. I turned to my right towards the door beside me. Soon after, I let out a sigh as I slowly walked to said door and left the room from it. Once I was back in the dark hallway, I went over to the wall right next to the door and leaned my back against it, sliding downwards and sitting down on the floor shortly after.
I opened my journal back up to look over the numbers I had written down. There had to be some sort of code associated with these numbers. The gears inside of my head went to work, trying to think of what those numbers could mean. They all seemed to go up to the twenties, but none of them went further than that. The highest number on there was twenty-six. "Twenty-six.... twenty-six...what could twenty-six have to do with this?" I asked myself, not expecting an answer.
Wait.
How could I have been so stupid?
I understood that now wasn't the best time to think about preschool, but the moment it hit me, I mentally facepalmed myself. I quickly went through each nunber and wrote something else down below each one. I had no clue what it was before, but the moment I saw the number twenty-six, I couldn't think of anything else it could be. Although my hand was hurting from all the writing, this was an important matter. I had to write down all of them down.
