Lucinda
Four numbers were written on my arm.
Two, three, six, and eight.
I had no clue what they meant, or why they were behind the vents I uncovered with the wrench, but something kept pestering me about them, so I had no choice but to give in and write them on my arm in the order I found them. I was still holding the large gash on my abdomen, trying my best to ignore the red stains seeping out of my button-up and the bandages I had wrapped around it. "I've lost too much blood..." I realized. "I don't have much time left. I have to find that cure fast." I sighed before wiping the sweat off of my forehead.
My gaze then went towards the large buttons in front of me. As I had noticed earlier, most of the buttons had strange and slightly demonic symbols on them. "I've seen these symbols before..." I thought to myself. Before the infection, I had been taking trips to my school's library during my spare time to do more research on humans. The Lucinda from back then must've been dead set on trying to figure out why she and her family were the only ones in Lucella.
The symbols were actually different letters of the alphabet. I was able to put two and two together and realized that the numbers on my arm were what I needed to put into the panel. "If I remember correctly... this is a T... and then this is a W," I began to think to myself as I pressed the buttons according to my memory. Back then, I had only thought that they were cool symbols. I had no idea that they would actually prove to be useful in the future. I wondered why those symbols were in a book about humans to begin with.
Maybe I wouldn't live to find out.
Oh well.
As I pressed the final button, a symbol that would replace the letter T, my gaze then turned to the green check mark button at the bottom. I was certain that what I had put in the panel was correct, so I slowly bent down to press the green button, wondering what it would bring. However, as soon as my fingers pushed the button, a sudden wave of something I couldn't explain rushed through me. I let out a gasp in response before yelping as I found myself falling to the ground.
Something that wasn't there before was now beneath my feet. I must've tripped over it in shock of what happened. I looked down only to see a radio that looked all to similar to every other radio I've seen. Said radios were known to cause trouble for me, so I was hesitant to pick it up. However, a radio that still worked was better than nothing. I had to find Mimi as soon as I could, but those pillars were in the way. I could only hope that I would be able to slip the radio through the gap.
I stood up with the radio tucked underneath the arm holding the flashlight. Tightening my grip on the arm around my abdomen, I bit my lip before running down the hall towards the door I had entered from. I used my side to force the door open, and I nearly tumbled to the ground on impact. Luckily, I was able to balance myself. After calming myself down, I immediately looked up, and what I saw on either side of me made me gasp as confusion filled my head.
The pillars were gone.
What was going on?
As if on cue, I noticed Mimi walking out of a door from the corner of my eye, and I immediately turned in her direction before running towards her. "Mimi! Mimi!" I called out to her while being out of breath. Mimi turned to me confused in response. "Cindy?!" She asked in a slight panic. "What happened to you?!" I shook my head at her before shoving the radio into her hands. "Nevermind that. See if you can get us some help, work your magic with this radio!" I responded. "I'm going to keep looking for the cure."
