Lucinda

I had bad experiences with small spaces, but I forced myself to tolerate it.

"Willow, you are under arrest for stealing food and other supplies from all over the city," Doggy declared. Rose remained silent as Willow backed up against the wall, her eyes wide. "I-I was only trying to feed my family, please!" She begged. My sister bit her lip and fixated her gaze on the ground. She seemed just as hurt as Willow was. Although Willow was a criminal, I couldn't blame my sister for her own feelings.

"Y-You...you know the laws, Willow..." Rose stuttered as her voice dropped down to a whisper, "I'm so sorry..." I held back a gasp as I noticed Rash creeping up on Rose and Doggy, his crowbar ready to bash someone's head open. I thought Willow would let this play out, but she didn't, much to my surprise. "Stand down, Rash," she ordered him, "It's not worth it." Rash seemed shocked to hear those words from Willow.

"What?! Why?! They'll take us away!" He protested. Willow looked down at her feet and didn't say anything. Rose wasn't any different. She had nothing but regret and sadness on her face as she stared down at the floor below, her hands limp at her sides. I felt bad. Not just for my sister, but for Willow aswell. From the way Rose described her back then, they seemed close, and maybe they could've been closer if they hadn't fought when they were younger.

Doggy was the one who broke the silence. "We'd rather do that than take you out," he threatened. I held back a gasp at the statement. I had only seen people being killed in movies and TV shows, but never in real life. I didn't want to see it happen, especially to the ones I cared about. Rash didn't seem to happy about Doggy's response either. He growled angrily as his grip on his crowbar tightened. For a moment, it seemed like he was about to attack.

Much to my surprise, he didn't.

"Grrr...you haven't seen the last of us!" He growled. With that, Doggy sighed and pulled out his handcuffs before walking over to Rash. The former put the latter in said handcuffs before walking him out of the building. That only left Rose and Willow in the room. Both of them stood in silence while staring at the floor below. The atmosphere was so thick, I didn't notice Doggy come back in and do the same thing he did to Rash to Willow.

My sister, in order to take her mind off of what just happened, opted to search around the room to see if anyone else was there. Luckily, she didn't check the vent I was in. The space was small, anyway. In the room were three sleeping bags of red, purple and blue, their sizes going from bigger to smaller respectively. "Huh...that's odd," I realized, "She said she was trying to feed her family...but there's no one here other than her and Rash."

Things were really starting to get confusing.

____________

"This...really doesn't feel right."

I climbed out of the vent and found myself in the room with the sleeping bags. I immediately pressed my back against the wall as my sister's statement filled my ears. I heard Doggy sigh as he and Rose stopped walking. "I know what you mean," he replied, "Unfortunately, it's the way things have to be." My curiosity was over the roof as I leaned in to hear their conversation. The urge to be mischievous was long gone and replaced with seriousness with a hint of empathy.

"But...isn't there anything we can do about it?" Rose pressed on. This was one trait that I somewhat hated about her. She always tried to see the good in people, even when there was no good to see. There may have been good in Willow back then, but after nearly three years, all that good went down the drain. That's what I thought, at least. I had no say in the matter considering the fact that no one other than Rash knew I was there.
