Lucinda
Budgey came back after a few minutes.
Soon, I found myself being pulled aside by the captain along with Willow. The others went towards the edge of the ship. According to Budgey, it was one of the safest places on the ship. The wolf stood next to me in her usual position: arms crossed and an annoyed expression on her face. Why was it that she found everything either annoying or boring? For a moment, I believed that she agreed to help us out of boredom or something similar to that. I wouldn't be surprised if that was true.
"When you landlubbers get in the ship, make your way to the hull," Budgey informed us. "The fuel should be there." I gave her a firm nod as I took my gloved hands out of my pockets. "Got it," I replied before turning to Willow. "Let's get going." Budgey wished us good luck before walking past us to join the others on the safe side of the ship. Soon, it was just me, the officer's sister, and her, the criminal who had a love-hate relationship with said officer.
Willow sighed and turned around before walking up to the ship's white railing. She rested her elbows on it before resting her head on one of her hands. "Willow?" I asked with a tilt of my head. The wolf hummed in acknowledgement but didn't say a word. After realizing that I wasn't going to leave anytime soon, she sighed and waved me off. "You go on ahead, kid. I'll catch soon," Willow said without batting an eye in my direction. "I just need to think for a moment."
It took all of my strength to hold back the annoyed sigh I so desperately wanted to let out. However, I settled for a light nod before walking ahead, leaving the wolf to keep herself company with her thoughts. My plan was to just wander around the ship to get a basic idea of where everything was. Once I was done, I would start looking for the fuel. Of course, the infected crew meant that there would be more locks and keys, so that told me that I couldn't just walk in.
Nothing throughout the infection had been that easy, after all.
I unintentionally walked passed a large metal door and three circular windows. I didn't stop walking until I spotted another metal door next to a bench. Unfortunately, said bench had nothing on it. "Oh, a ship hatch door..." I thought out loud. I bit my lip, barely realizing how heavy those doors were and how hard it was to turn the valves on them. Then again, I was on a ship, so I couldn't complain. I let out an annoyed sigh and shook my head.
"Okay... here goes nothing," I breathed as I cracked my knuckles. Once I was done, I moved my hands and clutched the metal on the valve tightly. Putting all of my strength onto my legs and hands, I twisted the valve as hard as I could while trying my best to not fall over. It took a while, but I eventually managed to turn the valve as far as I needed it to be and pulled the door open. On the inside was an extremely short but an extremely dark hallway. A sole small light on the ceiling was barely illuminating the area.
On the right stood a door with a green lock, while a hallway that split into two directions was on the left. There was a similar door on the other end of the hall. I opted to walk down the creepy hall until I reached the other door. I would either keep these doors open or shut them but not turn the valves to save myself time. After going through the door, I found myself back outside. There was nothing on my left, so I went to the right instead.
I walked passed more circular windows, and I thought that I made it to the back of the ship somehow. I walked by another door with a green lock before noticing a bench from the corner of my eye. A vault and a blue key were sitting on the bench as though they were waiting for me to find them. I walked over to the bench and took the blue key from it before turning around and walking back to the door. Soon, I was back in the dark hallway.
I decided to check out the hallway that wasn't locked with a green lock. As I turned the corner, my instincts told me to go down the left door, so I did. I had to stop for a moment when I found a door with a blue lock not even two steps after I had gone down the left hall. As I was processing how that was possible, I walked up to the door and unlocked it. I was met with what seemed to be a storage room on the other side.
