Lucinda
Willow went back to her "tough guy" act soon after, but it definitely had signs of faltering.
The news of Rose's death must've hit her hard. Good. She deserved it. I had to force her back up on her feet and tell Willow that my sister would've forgiven her no matter how long it took for her to apologize. My only assumption was that she didn't want to seem weak around other people. I could understand that as I was in a similar position. We had met up with the rest of my initial group, and Willow took the lead, eventually taking us to a port.
The wolf let out an annoyed sigh as she walked to the edge of the dock, stopping right before she could fall into the cold water below. She turned to face us. "As much as I'd just love to take you across the North Sea, the tactless tiger took my boat!" Willow explained to us. I crossed my arms and hummed. "Talk about rebellion," I muttered under my breath. "How are we going to get there now?" Zuzy asked nervously. Mimi started working the gears in her brain before noticing a lighthouse next to us.
"I wonder if we can get that lighthouse working again..." Mimi wondered out loud. I turned to the lighthouse. It was tall, but the lights were off. I imagined how the scenario could go in my head. If we got that lighthouse up and running, a ship might notice and come park by the dock. "That could work..." I thought to myself with a finger on my chin. However, that meant that I would have to "work my magic" with all the locks and keys. I sighed and turned on my heel before walking towards the stairs.
"I'll go check it out, you guys wait here," I said in a firm tone. "Or... I don't know, come up here if you want to help." Without giving them a chance to respond, I left. I had no idea why I felt the need to do everything myself. It just felt right. With Willow on our side, I didn't have to worry about the others getting hurt while I was gone. She was just as capable of defending herself as I was. Once I reached the top of the stairs, I looked around. There were a lot of abandoned cars and buildings.
Based on what I saw, it was safe to say that there was no keys around. That meant that they had to be behind the two buildings. Walking across the street, trying my best to ignore the remnants of what happened, I made my way to the alley. I was met with more trashed cars, much to my confusion. How were they able to get back here? Then again, I had yet to see signs of a busted fence or wall. However, what I did see was a red key sitting on a bench.
Locked doors and an infected weren't exactly a good combination.
____________
Someone was here. That's what I thought, at least.
I held the purple key tightly in my hand as I stared at the doorway infront of me. Said doorway was barricaded with tables and chairs. That was how I came with the conclusion that someone was on the floor above me. I didn't want to call out to them in case I lured the infected to me, so I just dropped my closed knife onto the ground. After standing awkwardly in silence, I realized that no one was there. I shrugged before heading down the stairs nearby.
I was about to turn and go down the stairs once more, but someone had gotten to them first. Said someone had a cream colored suit with a black belt and matching suspenders forming an "X" shape, and a gray tail sticking out it's back. They had black gloves and boots. They also wielded a dark gray anchor, holding it with both of their hands. There was a oxygen tank on their back, and their boots were full of dark green seaweed. Finally, they had a large dark red scratch on their face, behind their golden diver's helmet
I couldn't tell what animal it was, but the red eye that glowed from inside told me all I needed to know. This was the infected I would be dealing with for the duration of our stay here. I bit my lip as the diver swung their anchor at me. There was a vent hole directly at my feet, so I quickly ducked down and practically jumped out of it. The fall I took wasn't pretty, but it also wasn't the worst thing in the world. Even though I was outside, I could still hear the diver's loud and deep breaths.
