Lucinda

"Hello? Is anyone there?"

As expected, no one answered. I had always enjoyed the scary stories about ghost ships that my father used to tell Rose and I during October, but now it felt like I was in one of said stories. Up to my knowledge, no one was here. I soon scratched that thought out after realizing that someone had to be here. Ships don't just move on their own. The other children seemed to believe those "ghost ship" stories and were visibly freaking out. However, they were proven wrong.

"Who goes there?!"

We all looked up while someone jumped down onto the deck at the same time. It was a green and white bird in a pirate's outfit, with the right wingtip being replaced by a hook. A pirate's hat with a red feather sat ontop of her head. My hand immediately went to Zizzy's hat on my head. The pirate's canary yellow eyes stared us down. The cutlass in her hand got the message across that she was ready to defend herself if need be.

"Avast ye filthy landlubbers!" The bird exclaimed. "My name is Captain Budgey, captain of the Medora! Were you the ones who lit the lighthouse?" Pony stepped forward and nodded before answering for us. "That would be us. We need your help," he replied. Budgey seemed visibly shocked, and it started to show when she gasped dramatically and stepped back. Shortly after that, she let out a scoff. The reaction was definitely extra.

"Blimey! You board my ship and ask me for help? This isn't charity!" Budgey stated in a firm, loud and slightly sassy tone. The pirate's attitude didn't fail to bring mixed reactions out of us. Mimi was just blinking in confusion while Pony had a nervous look on his face. Willow had an annoyed expression on her's, and Georgie, Zee and Zuzy seemed slightly scared of the pirate. Then there was me with my usual blank expression. In my opinion, we were kind of like a dysfunctional family.

The wolf pinched the bridge of her nose in annoyance. "We don't have time to waste," Willow informed Budgey. "We need to get across the North Sea, and fast." The last part confused me. The North Sea? My gaze turned to the floor. For my entire life, I had never stepped outside of the isolated island of Lucella. The farthest I'd ever been was at the beach, looking out into the water, wondering what sat beyond what I could see.

This would be my first time leaving Lucella, and I wasn't sure what to think of it.

Budgey spoke up once more at Willow's demanding request. "Sink me! Across the sea? On the Medora? You have lost your minds!" She exclaimed. "We aren't going anywhere. I used what fuel we had left to dock here." My hands moved to my hips as I sighed. I knew it wasn't going to be easy. Nothing was easy in this world. If the people wanted something, they had to work for it. That was how it worked in this world no matter how much I hated it.

"Don't you have any spare fuel?" I asked. I didn't know much about ships, but I did know that no form of transportation carried enough fuel for just one or two trips. Budgey must've been out at sea for a long time if she was out of fuel. Budgey lifted her hook up to her chin as though she was thinking of an answer to my question, trying to remember if she had fuel or not. Eventually, after a few seconds, she had an answer.

Budgey nodded. "Aye, but it is not possible to get to it." I bit my lip and clenched my fists as I fixated my gaze to the ground below in slight frustration. Confusion also filled my head. Why was it not possible to get to it? Shouldn't the captain of her ship know where it was? "Why would that be?" Mimi suddenly asked, breaking the silence. I didn't notice that Mimi had finally stepped forward next to Pony until I glanced in her direction.

Budgey took a deep breath before practically breaking into a story. "Ever since Davy Jones cursed the world, my hearties weighed the anchor and left to sea. Then, we found out one of our mates had Davy's sickness. One by one, they fell. I had no choice but to seal them in the lower levels of the ship. To this day, the ship remains sealed alongside the fuel reserves." There were infected on board with us. That was why the fuel was nearly impossible to get to.
