the weather was bad for days and Alma was confused on what was going on with her daughter. you never left her side and she only seems to eat if you was by her side. Alma noticed her other 2 children also seemed down.
"is there something i need to know that is affecting the 4 of you?" Alma ask as you are all sitting together for lunch
Everyone stays quiet looking at their plates.
"you know we don't keep secrets in this house" Alma said
she then looks at Bruno who tries really hard to look at his plate
"Brunito.. " she said knowing he's usually the first to break and tell her
"uh may i be excused from the table?" he ask
"go ahead" she said
Bruno hurries off so he doesn't have to talk.
"so it seems to be something really serious based on your brother's reaction. you girls know you can tell me anything right?" she said
"no we can't" Pepa finally said
you squeeze her hand gently.
"what do you mean?" Alma asked
"you get mad if i'm not in a good mood so why would i tell you my bad news?" pepa said
"mi amor don't be ridiculous. you can tell me anything" Alma tries to grab her middle child's hand
"so you can hate me!? fine.. i was pregnant but i lost my baby!" Pepa screams
she runs out the kitchen with thunder roaring. Alma stays there in shock.
"mi vida " you call out
"excuse me" you said to be polite
you run after Pepa. Alma looks at Julieta as if she has any answers.
"she was scared of how you'd react. Bruno and I too. we didn't want you to tell her to.. get rid of the baby" Julieta said
"what.. i would never" Alma said
she gets up to go see Pepa.
"you should let her calm down a bit mami. she won't talk to you like this. it would just be a lot of thunder " Julieta said
Alma sigh and sits back down massaging her temples. Julieta makes Alma a tea and then goes upstairs.
Julieta quietly walks into Pepa's room. not like you two would hear over the thunder and you trying to calm her
"I don't pretend to know the challenges we're facing. I know there's no replacing what we've lost and you need time. I'll always be by your side. " you tell her.
Julieta walks over and grabs her sisters hand. Pepa looks at her sister.
"i'm here for you too... i'm sorry i wasn't there when it happened. " Julieta said
she feels guilty. she's a healer and this is something she couldn't help with.
"i don't want to talk to mami. she must hate me for getting pregnant but probably more because i lost the baby" Pepa cries
Julieta pulls her into a hug not caring about getting wet.
"hey she doesn't hate you. she's worried if anything" Julieta said
"h-how do you know? she didn't even come up" Pepa said
"i'm right here" you all hear
you all look at the door and see Alma there.
"can i be alone with Pepa please?" she ask
You look at Pepa
"are you going to be okay if i step outside ?" you ask
she shakes her head and holds on to you. Julieta kisses her sister's cheek and then leaves. Alma walks over and sits next to Pepa and grabs her hand.
"i'm sorry you felt like you couldn't talk to me. I love you so much mi chica luchadora. you are brave for going through this. I'm so thankful you aren't alone. don't feel like you can't come to me. " Alma said
Pepa hugs her mom and cries into her shoulder. Alma rubs her back.
"thank you for being there for my girl" Alma said to you
"i won't ever leave her. i love her too much" you explain.
You let the mother daughter duo have their moment and excuse yourself. you walk out the room so you can have a breather.
Seeing how heartbroken Pepa is hurts but it hurts having to be the strength for you both.
"are you okay?" you hear
you look and see Bruno there
"uh yeah why wouldn't i be?" you said
"because you are hurt also... you lost a child too" he said
you sigh and run a hand through your hair
"yeah.. i mean i'm hurt but i have to be there for your sister. we can't both be broken. " you said
"well you can talk to me if you need to.. i know you two will have a baby. just not now and Pepa will be over the moon happy. " Bruno said rubbing his arm awkwardly
"thank you" you said and hug him
Bruno surprised hugs back.
"Dating pepa or not you will always be a brother to me" you tell the awkward teen
he smiles bright happy to have you in his life.
(okay yall i don't know about you but i like to think of the loss of the baby to be one of the moments that kind of makes Alma start to want everything perfect because she will now worry about the next generation at the back of her mind since she wants to keep the miracle alive)
