Chapter 44

Ilang sandaling katahimikan bago nagsalita ang ama.

"Do you know why I agreed to let you marry her?" His father suddenly asked.

Naglakad ito at kumuha ng alak sa lalagyanan nitong kabinet. Nilagyan ang goblet at tinitigan pa ang basong may laman ng alak bago sumimsim.

"Love is like this glass and wine.  A mixture of sweet and sour. This glass will be the fundamental of this wine. The moment you can't hold onto it, possibilities will occur. To be broken and scattered on the floor." Makahulugang saad ng ama.

Napatingin siya sa basong pira-piraso na hinulog ng ama na may lamang alak.

"Boom! The will happen the moment you will not treasure and hold tightly the relationship that you have. Broken into pieces."

Napatingin siya sa amang nagpupunas na ngayon ng kamay.

"Wag ding hawakang mahigpit ang baso, nakakasakit. Wag ding maluwag, mababasag." Muling makahulugang sabi ng ama.

Tumayo siya mula sa pagkakaupo sa sahig. Seryoso siyang napatingin sa ama. May bumabagabag sa kanya mula pa kanina.

"What do you mean by your question earlier?" He seriously asked making his father look at him. He looks serious again.

"Hindi ka ba nagtataka kung bakit kahit nalulugi ang kompanya nila pumayag akong ipakasal ka? What do you think I would benefit?" His father asked him.

Ano nga ba?

Wala. Bukod sa nalulugi ang kompanya ng biyenan ay wala naman siyang naiisip na magiging benepisyo nito sa ama.

Ngumisi ang ama dahil sa nakikitang kalituhan sa kanyang mukha.

"Remember when I first took you to come with me on my business meeting?"

"Dad, please get to the point." Nauubusan ng pasensyang utos nito.

Ayaw niya ng binibitin.

"Remember the little girl you where staring on our first business meeting? Probably 11 or 12? I don't know. You were 18 that time when you first met."

"With who?" Naguguluhan niyang tanong sa ama.

"Your wife." His father simply said.

Mas lalo naman siyang naguluhan.

"Your wife and the little girl you were staring back then is only one person. I caught you staring at her the whole duration of our meeting with his father. I saw the glints on your eyes."

Yes, he could vividly remember now. Naalala na niya ang batang walang muwang na kumakain ng ice cream sa kanilang harapan habang may kabusiness meeting ang ama. His father is starting to train him that time about their company.

He felt a loud thug  on his chest. His heartbeat is violently beating when she looked at him. She stared at him for a seconds and then continue eating her ice cream. Not minding the people around her.

"Kaya noong nalaman kong nagkakaproblema ang kompanya nila ay agad akong nag offer sa kanyang ama. I thought it was a success. Ang kaso ang jinowa mo yung kahawig."

He also thought that his ex lover was the one he saw on their business meeting. He didn't really payed attention on his father's business meeting because his eyes were glued on the little girl who's eating an ice cream.

"I already made the move but you slipped. Hinayaan kita sa kabaliwan mo sa dati mong kasintahan. I let you searched for her. Pero hindi kita hinayaan noong nalaman kong nabuntis siya at planong ipaako sayo ang bata. I let her leave the country and go back to the Philippines because I can see that you're already happy with you family and of course, you already loved your wife without knowing that she is really your first love. But you slipped again and boom! That happened."
