"What?" said Y/N, her heart dropping. "So, they're taking me to court?"
"That's what I've been told," said Officer Davis.
Jimmy put his hand on Y/N's back. "Don't worry, Y/N, I know you're innocent. I'll pay however much is needed to sort this all out."
Y/N felt a wave of guilt. Here Jimmy was, defending her innocence, and here she was, about to get his DNA tested because she sort of believed he was guilty. But it was different. Jimmy had proof Y/N was innocent, so of course he'd believe her. Ariana Grande and Kay had literally admitted it was them. But, he had also believed Y/N before they'd came clean...then again, though, that was because he had been with Y/N when the fire alarm was set off, so he had witnessed her alibi. Nobody had owned up or been caught out to spiking Y/N, and Jimmy didn't even have an alibi.
"You can ask them to settle their charges by paying for the damage yourself, Jimmy, but they might just be looking for justice."
"Well, what's their idea of justice?" asked Jimmy.
"The American justice system doesn't give many options, Mr Fallon. I'm sure you know all of them."
Y/N stood, stunned. Jail was the main option, wasn't it? But, there was also community service. They must be thinking of community service. Even if she had set off the fire alarm, she didn't deserve to go to jail! That was so extreme! She was just going to have to rat out Ariana and Kay. They gave her no choice.
"I can prove it wasn't me," said Y/N.
"Go on," urged Officer Davis.
Y/N opened her mouth to snake on Ariana and Kay, but Jimmy spoke first. "Wait," he murmured to Y/N. "Can I talk to you about this first?"
Y/N looked confused, but nodded.
"Thank you for informing us, Officer," Jimmy said, and he led Y/N away to a different part of the station. "I don't think you should out Kay."
"Out her? I'm not telling anyone she's gay," Y/N said.
"No, I mean...I don't think you should tell the police she helped set the fire alarm off."
"Why ever not? It's her or me going down for it, and I'm not the one who's guilty."
"Because...I'm sort of afraid of her. I'm afraid of what she'll do."
Y/N blinked, stunned. "What?"
"When things don't go her way...she acts out. Well, you've seen it yourself! The whole fire alarm situation was caused by Kay acting out in the first place."
"I'm not scared of her," Y/N said. That was mostly a lie. "Whatever she does can't be as bad as the punishment I'll have to endure if I don't rat her out."
"Look, you can tell them it was just Ariana. And, Y/N, I wouldn't let it get to the point of punishment, anyway. Trust me, I'll have the situation under control. It won't make a difference who the police or Rockefeller think set the fire alarm off, because it won't affect them once I pay for damages...plus extra apology money."
"But...what about what the officer said? That they might want justice instead."
"That officer is an idiot. I know what type of guy he is. He's just trying to scare you because it makes him feel powerful. Don't listen to him."
Jimmy and Y/N were being escorted to a room where he could do his DNA test, and as they were on their way, they passed a young man in handcuffs, being walked down the hall by a couple of officers.
"Jimmy Fallon!" the man called out, his voice grainy and manic. "Oi! Tell 'em it wasn't me! You saw me make the drink!"
