Behind the Window

After closing up the coffee shop, Y/N made her way through the bustling city of New York towards the subway. Snow still fell softly, and Christmas lights and trees illuminated almost every window. Asides from a few drunks, the atmosphere was pleasant, with both adults and children celebrating the festivity by throwing snowballs and Christmas shopping. It was Manhattan, after all.

About to leave the snow behind and turn into the subway, Y/N felt a hand grasp her shoulder and stop her in her tracks. Assuming it was another drunk, her stomach dropped and her breathing caught. When she turned to see who it was, she breathed out a stifled sigh of relief, but her guard wasn't completely down. It was a woman, but one she'd never seen before. Perhaps her bag was undone, or she had a period stain, or she hadn't locked up the coffee shop properly and someone was here to tell her it had been broken into.

"Excuse me, ma'am," the woman said.

Y/N noted she was speaking formally, and wondered if she could be stopping her to promote her brand or pyramid scheme. Surely she'd do that in the daytime if that were the case, though.

"My boss has just informed me that he knows you, and that he'd like to offer you a lift," she continued. "His name is Jimmy Fallon."

Y/N's breath caught yet again. Jimmy Fallon! Jimmy Fallon knows her! Y/N stopped her train of thought immediately. It must be some sort of prank, or even a kidnapping attempt. Asking someone if they wanted a lift was the easiest trick in the book. This woman didn't work for Jimmy Fallon. Y/N looked back towards the subway stairs and began edging towards them.

The woman laughed. "I know, I know, it's kind of daunting, isn't it? I had on the exact same expression you have now when I was offered the job to work for him. But he's in the car over there if you want to speak," she said, gesturing towards the road behind her.

Y/N looked over the woman's shoulder and found the car she was referring to. It was black, with blacked out windows. Y/N thought again that it could be a prank. Anyone could be sat behind those windows, watching her, laughing. It could even be a prank for Jimmy's Tonight Show. But then that could mean Jimmy was in there, anyway.

The woman noticed Y/N's face of hesitation. "His show's over, he's in no rush, and between you and me, I think he'd view being delayed by you as some sort of a privilege. You coming?"

What was that supposed to mean? Now it had to be a prank. The woman turned back around and started walking to the car. Y/N followed. She knew she might as well just see. She was in public in the busiest part of New York, surrounded by ordinary women and men in suits travelling home from work. What was the worst that could happen?

As she approached, one of the blacked out windows rolled down. Sure enough, Jimmy Fallon was sitting behind it. Y/N wasn't sure whether to be relieved, or more nervous than she was before.

"Hello, girl from the coffee shop!" Jimmy said, grinning.

Y/N smiled awkwardly. "Hello."

"Hop in, I'll give you a ride! Or...my driver will give you a ride...with me in it, too."

Memories of being taught never to get into a stranger's car played in Y/N's head. "Um. I live really far."

"That's okay. My driver gets paid for this, and I've no problem paying him, so it's all good."

But Jimmy wasn't a stranger. Y/N knew him from TV. And besides, she'd already met him once before, in the coffee shop. She smiled and slid through the door opened by Jimmy, and onto the seat beside him.

Question: Did Y/N make a mistake by getting in Jimmy's car?
