"Whatever you've done, Y/N, I don't think anything could change the way I feel about you," said Jimmy.
Although that gave Y/N some comfort, it also made her worry a little. To say that, he must've been thinking of scenarios that aren't even bad. He didn't even think her capable of doing what she'd done.
"Even if I was an axe murderer?" Y/N joked. What she'd done wasn't quite as bad as that.
"Is this you confessing?" Jimmy joked back. "Well, if you were, I'm sure you would have a reason to justify it. You're not evil, I know that. You said it yourself—you've done bad things, but you're not a bad person in general," he continued seriously.
That did make Y/N feel a lot better. Jimmy was understanding. He knew that people made mistakes that didn't represent themselves as a whole, and he knew that bad things are sometimes done for a reason.
"So, are you gonna tell me what it is?" asked Jimmy, waiting. "This big, bad thing from your past that's coming back to haunt your present?"
Y/N was quiet for a moment, but then she said, "I think someone else might."
"What do you mean?"
"I don't wanna tell you what it is. I just want you to know me for the person I am right now...but I think someone else might let you know who I used to be, anyway."
Jimmy looked bewildered. "Who?"
Perhaps Y/N had said too much. Now Jimmy was just going to be curious about what she'd done, and want to find out for himself, anyway. If she hadn't mentioned it at all, he wouldn't have been interested in the subject. But, then again, talking to Jimmy about it had put her mind to rest. He seemed to like her no matter what she'd done. If she told him who knew her secret, he might go ahead and ask her himself.
"My mother," Y/N lied.
"Why would your mother want to tell me your secret? Have you told her about me?"
Y/N hadn't actually told her mother—or her father, for that matter—about Jimmy. They lived the quiet, small-town life, and were quite stuck in the past, only contacting Y/N through e-mail. She wasn't sure what they'd make of Jimmy Fallon. They'd probably seen his show plenty of times as they watched a lot of nighttime television in bed, but Y/N couldn't imagine how they'd react to him being part of the family. It did make her very curious.
"Yeah, I, uh...I called her this morning and told her about you, but she started getting all worried about me being involved in celebrity business, so she threatened to tell you about my past to put you off of me," Y/N lied again. She was honestly impressed by her ability to make up a story that fast.
Jimmy looked quite disturbed. "Wow. I know she's your mother and everything, so no offence, but that sounds horrible."
Y/N knew he probably wanted to say she, meaning Y/N's mother in general, sounds horrible. If he ever did meet Y/N's innocent mother, it might be a little awkward, now.
"None taken. I don't get along with her that well."
"I'm not surprised," said Jimmy, then he laughed to cheer her up. "Am I that bad?"
"You're perfect."
Jimmy smiled lovingly. "So, what do you wanna do today? If you need a break from me to go home and check up on things, just say. I won't be offended."
Y/N laughed. "I don't want a break from you. You are my break."
"If you say so," said Jimmy. "What do you usually do on the weekends?"
"I don't do much...just play the piano, go swimming, read a bit..."
"I like to read, too," said Jimmy. "We could do what you usually do today. I don't wanna disrupt your weekend schedule."
Y/N laughed again. "Don't be silly. What do you usually do?"
"Play some golf, go drinking, read a bit, too..."
"Why don't we play some golf? With your friends, if you want?"
Then, Y/N's phone pinged. Shielding the screen from Jimmy's gaze, she checked the message.
