Chapter 10

*Time skip to Wednesday*

Sawyer POV

I walk into the group home after soccer practice and look around for Liz, but quickly remember that she is not here due to a family emergency. We have a new woman covering for her. I frown when this realization hits me because I once again had my daily report that was covered in comments about my good day. I opened up my camera and snapped a photo, quickly sending it to Alex and Serv.

Even though I'm still adjusting to their rules and boundaries, I miss them and Charlie. I'm really excited for Friday because Alex mentioned the skate park.

I hear a knock at the door and see Emily outside. I smile and immediately let her in.

"Hey, what's up?" I smile at her. "Hey, just wanted to check in on you, haven't really seen you at school this week."

I sigh, "I know, I've been trying to focus and keep my head down, which keeps me out of trouble, you know?" She laughs, "I know, I've been keeping tabs and so far, no visits to principal Austin!"

My eyes widen, "Weirdo."

"You love me." I look down.

"Anyways, I came to see if you wanted to kick the ball around?" I nod, "Sure." I then feel my phone vibrate and look down. Alex sent a photo of the three of them smiling at the beach with a message, "So proud Sawyer! We're wishing you were here with us!"

Tears well up in my eyes when I read this, "Hey what's wrong?"

"Nothing, just a little sad to miss out on beach day with the bonus fam, that's all. Let's kick." I put my phone away and head outside with my best friend. Just two more days...

Alex POV

I looked at my phone again seeing no reply from Sawyer. I find myself constantly worrying about her when she's not physically with us.

"What's up babe?" I sigh, "no response, you think she's okay?"

"She's okay, probably hanging with her friends. Did Liz get her help at school?"

I nod, "Yeah, she'll have a reading specialist so she will get pulled from class twice per day to see her. Starts Friday, her name is Rachel. And she will come to the house too."

He smiles, "That's great, hopefully it'll get her up to speed."

"Yeah, we will see how Sawyer responds to her. I'm not sure if Liz has told her."

He hums in response.

We walk in after the beach, it's already late, Serv carrying a sleeping Charlie. I give her a kiss, "I'll be back."

I head to let the dogs out for a little and then begin putting stuff away. Once I'm done, Serv comes down and finishes up while I drag myself up to bed.

I flop into bed and soon feel the bed dip, Serv wrapping his arms around me. "Night babe." He whispers. My final thought being that I hope Sawyer is okay.

I'm startled awake by my phone ringing, I look at the clock, 'Who's calling at 3AM?' I look at my phone, Sawyer?

"Sawyer? What's wrong?"

Silence, but I can hear something like breathing. Shit.

"A-A-A-Alex!"

I sit up and turn on my light, "babe?"

I show Serv my phone and he immediately sits up while I put it on speaker.

"Sawyer, hey it's okay, you're okay. Just breathe okay? Slow, deep breaths okay? Slow and deep"
