Sawyer POV

"Kid, you know this will be hard, yeah?" I hear Bree say.

Right now, I'm focusing on the balance board and staring out at the gym at Hannah's clinic.

I have a game tonight and then we're going to go camping. I'm really wound up about both plus going to my parent's storage unit.

I nod mindlessly at Bree and abruptly stop the balance board.

"Want to jump." I start moving quickly with Maverick whining at my side.

"Sawyer! Wait." I hear Hannah say, but just keep moving.

Hannah gets in front of me and blocks me from getting to the trampoline.

"Move!" I yell.

"Nope. I'm not moving. We're not jumping."

My brain is moving too fast to make a good decision.

"I asked! I asked to jump!"

Bree finally catches up and gets into my view.

"You didn't ask. You told. You're too wound up to jump." She says calmly.

"This is fucking stupid! I don't want to be here, I'm done!"

I start looking around for an exit and see the bathroom.

'At least I'll be alone there.'

I lean left like I'm going to run the opposite direction then cut right.

"Damn, she's fast." I hear Hannah say.

I bolt into the bathroom with Maverick right behind me and slam the lock on.

I sink against the door and just put my head down.

I hear my phone ring and pull it out.

Makena

I answer it, "Hi."

"Hey, you. What's wrong?"

"I'm hiding." I say.

"Aren't you at OT?" She says.

I sigh, "Yeah. I'm upset."

"About what? Wait, does anyone know where you are?"

I bob my head, "Yep. I wanted to jump. They said no. I got mad, don't want to talk anymore."

She sighs, "I have a few minutes before my next class. Explain it to me?"

"I want to go to my parent's storage unit. They don't think I'm quite ready to experience all of the emotions. They said it's going to be hard. I know it will be hard!"

"Babe. Take a breath."

I take a deep breath.

"Okay. I know you know it will be hard. But I don't think you see HOW hard it will be. I think this little stunt shows just how not ready you are."

I groan, "Are you agreeing with them?"

"Don't be mad. I just think that by you getting upset right now by being told no and not communicating, it's just further proving them right. You have to face things head on, babe, even if they're hard."

I sigh.

"And Sawyer? Being told no is not fun, but there's other options, right? You're working on that, yeah? Being flexible?"

"You've been listening to my momma too much.." I say.

"I want to help and I'm not helping by always taking your side."
