Sawyer POV

I'm taking a break from Rachel when I hear the door open.

I hear footsteps and then feel two hands over my eyes, "I know it's you, momma! Where were you?"

"Not momma, but close!"

Wait.

I quickly turn around, "Auntie Jeri!!" I tackle her, "Oomph. Jesus kiddo."

I hear a chuckle and look up, "Surprise, baby!"

I look down and see Auntie Jeri rub her elbow, I burrow into her, "What are you doing here?!" I ask.

"Heard someone hit a milestone. And I wanted to see you and Charlie!"

I look down and smile, "So cool! I'm happy you're here! I have a game and it's pops' birthday and you can meet Makena!"

She smiles, "Sawyer! Your timer went off! Turn off the-" I hear Rachel come into the room.

"Oh- hi! Hey Alex!" She says.

"Hey. Hi, sorry for the interruption. Sawyer, go finish with Rachel."

"You'll be here when I'm done?" I ask Auntie Jeri.

"Yeah, kid. I'm staying until next weekend." She squeezes me.

"Cool. Alright, let's go Rachel. Can I finish early?" I pull her with me.

"Maybe. Depends if you can get everything done."

I stop walking, "Wait, forgot something."

I turn around and walk to momma to give her a hug, "Hi baby."

"Hi. Okay now I can work." I let go and go to sit down. I look and see fluency charts and groan.

"I know they're hard, but you're actually getting good at them." She says.

"Still hard." I pull my necklaces into my mouth.

She looks at me, "Take those out. Kinda need your mouth empty for you to read, you can use a fidget if you want."

I sigh and nod and I start doing blended sounds and word fluency charts.

"Alright, you're done!" I look up and my brain feels heavy.

She smiles, "Good job, Sawyer. I'm going to talk to your momma, but you're done."

"Later, Rachel." I bolt up and head to find auntie Jeri.

I look outside and see her and momma talking, looking somewhat concerned, which makes me feel anxious.

I open the door, "I'm done, momma! Rachel wants to talk to you."

She turns and smiles, "Alright, baby." She kisses my head as she walks by. I walk and sit next to auntie Jeri.

"What were you and momma talking about?" I ask.

Her eyes widen, "Nothing, kiddo. Grown up stuff."

I bob my head, "Momma uses that phrase too when she doesn't want me to worry. Makes me worry more."

She softens, "It's not a big deal Sawyer. Nothing to worry about, okay?"

I stare at her, "Promise?"

"Promise. Now, what's going on with Makena?"

"Smooth. We're hanging and occasionally kissing. Holding hands. She's awesome. Just I worry about her, don't want her dad to hurt her."

"Your momma told me. You told her she can come here anytime?" She asks.
