Chapter 41

Sawyer POV

I walk outside of the hotel to the pool and look around, "Holy shit this is so beautiful."

I take a deep breath and just bask in the beauty of Monterrey. "Pretty cool, huh?" Pinoe says to me.

"This is amazing. I've never seen anything like it."

"You been out of the country before?" I shake my head, "Never."

I lean down and pet Maverick, "Good boy."

"Pretty awesome, huh baby?"

I look over at momma and nod.

"Sawyer! Look the mountains!" I look down at Charlie.

I pick her up, "It's pretty cool!"

"You feel okay?" I stare at momma.

"Uh, maybe? I'm kinda tired." I question.

She nods, "Okay. Let's go take a nap."

I follow momma with Charlie up to our room and hop into bed. We cuddle into her and drift off to sleep.

"Sawyer."

"Saaaaaawyer." I groan, "Leave me alone."

I hear mumbling and then feel a hand going through my hair. I crack an eye open.

"Hi baby, you alright?"

I shake my head, "Don't feel right."

She stares at me, "Explain it?"

I sigh and feel irritation building, "I'm at like a 1 and a 9 all at the same time. I have a headache..my brain is tired, but my body feels amped."

She smiles sadly, "It's probably the med change baby. I'm sorry. We kinda had to do it fast because we were coming here."

I sigh, "Okay."

"I have training, you want to come or stay?" She asks me.

I think about it, "Stay. Want sleep."

"Okay, I don't want you to sleep all afternoon."

I shrug. "Please?"

"You can sleep for now, but when I get back, you're getting up."

"Kay."

I feel her kiss my head and then get up. I close my eyes and sigh, 'This feeling sucks.'

I feel my phone vibrate and see that Makena is FaceTiming me.

I answer it, "Hey you- whoa what's wrong? Are you okay?"

I feel tears well up in my eyes and I'm trying so hard to not cry, but I can't.

"Hey Sawyer, focus on me. Okay? It's okay. You're okay, take deep breaths, alright? Big, deep breaths just like me. That's it. Keep going."

I start to slowly feel my body calm down and feel Maverick nudge me with his head, "Maverick, you gotta take care of our girl. Okay buddy?" I look at Makena and smile sadly, "Hi."

"Hey, you okay? What happened?"

I take a breath, 'Talk to her', "I - uh. My medication got changed and it's messing with me. I've been like sleeping all afternoon, but then my body feels weirdly out of whack, like I can't get it to just regulate."

She nods, "Did you tell Alex? I feel like she should know."

I nod, "She knows. She said I can't sleep all afternoon."

"Well I'm on that, you're going to talk to me instead of sleep!" She smiles.

"Look at the surf!" She turns her camera.
