Serv POV

I watch Sawyer stalk off with Rachel. I'm really hoping she can keep it together today.

"Can I speak with Principal Austin?"

"Sure thing! Let me grab her."

I see a woman about my age walk out. "Sawyer's foster dad?"

"That's me! I'm Serv, it's nice to meet you." I shake her hand.

"Nice to meet you, come to my office."

I follow her into her office and take a seat.

"So I'm assuming this is about Sawyer's incident yesterday?"

I nod, "My wife and I don't quite understand how it happened. Why was Sawyer not being shadowed?"

She nods, "Mrs. S, our school counselor was shadowing her, but had an issue and had to take her eyes off of her for a second. And we'll that's how that happened."

I clench my fists, they're supposed to protect Sawyer.

"Emily McPherson confirmed what Sawyer said about it Ben and Sasha, so they both have been suspended for a week. We will have a full time shadow on Sawyer at all times, even acting as a classroom-wide aide. She won't be left alone again. I promise you that."

I nod. "Okay. Thank you. Please don't let something happen again, you don't want to deal with Alex when she's in protective mode."

"I believe that. It won't happen again. Have a great day Mr. Carrasco."

I walk out and hop into my truck, heading to the beach to catch some waves.

Sawyer POV

"Can I have a snack?"

"One more check, Sawyer. Keep going. What kind of snack?"

I feel my eyes well up, "No tears Sawyer, it's okay. You can have a snack when you're done."

I take a deep breath, "Fruit snacks?"

She smiles and nods. "Keep going Sawyer."

I look at the sight word on the table and sigh. "Cuh, huh, chuh, ah, nn, guh, eh."

Rachel walks back over, "Chang?"

"Close Sawyer! So good that you got the beginning blended sound, the word is change." "Change." She gives me a check and hands me the fruit snacks.

"Alright, we have an hour left of school. So I'm thinking that you do your algebra work since we did ours and Lit already."

I sigh and nod. I grab my visual and Rachel gets my textbook. She starts reading and I complete the problems. My head starts to pound and I look at Rachel, "Can I have some meds? My head hurts."

"Let's call Alex and ask."

I see her pick up her phone and hear the FaceTime ring. I put my head down on the table.

"Hi Rachel!" "Hey, quick question. Sawyer here said her head is hurting, can she have Tylenol or ibuprofen?"

"Sawyer?" I pick my head up and see Rachel's phone in front of me.

I look at her.

"Scale of 1-10, how bad does it hurt."

I shrug, "Like an 8."

"Alright, we'll get you something baby. You can rest your head."

I nod and put my head back down. I hear Rachel hang up and make another call.

Within 5 minutes, three pills were given to me in a little plastic cup.

"Thanks."

"Aright, there's 10 minutes left, you wanna close your eyes before practice? I'm going to walk you to the locker room and then take you to the field."
