Chapter 53

Alex POV

I walk into the hospital with Charlie on my hip and see Serv pacing back and forth.

"Dada!"

He looks up and I can tell he's been crying.

I set Charlie down and she runs to him.

I walk to them and just bury my head into his neck.

"I'm so happy you guys are here." He says.

"Us too, babe." I sigh.

"Dada? Where Sawyer?" She asks looking around for her.

"Let's go see her, yeah? Remember she's in a hospital room and she's taking a nap, okay? We can't touch her or go in, but we can see her. Let her know we're here." He says.

He takes my hand and we head to Sawyer's room, which is an isolation room. Since they think Sawyer has meningitis, her, Tobin, and Christen have to be isolated for 48 hours.

I walk up and see Sawyer peacefully sleeping with Maverick underneath her. He picks his head up when he sees us.

"Mav-Rick protecting Sawyer, momma."

I tear up and rub her back, "Yeah baby, he is."

I see Tobin and Christen next door to Sawyer and walk over.

I push the button to talk and sigh, "Hi guys."

"Hey. It's all good so don't apologize. She's okay. Stable. Working on getting her fever down. She was just scared. Confused." Christen says.

I nod, "You guys good?"

They nod, "Yeah it's all precautions. If it's bacterial, we just stay for 48 hours until we're cleared."

"Okay."

I look over and see a doctor come out of Sawyer's room.

"Hi! I'm Dr. Johnston, you guys are this one's parents?"

We nod, "I'm Alex, this is Serv-"

"I'm Charlie! I Sawyer sister!" Charlie yells and I smile.

"Well, hi!" She says.

"Alright so it looks like Sawyer here has meningitis, we just have to determine if it's viral or bacterial. That determines course of action. We have her on some medications and antibiotics. If it's okay with you guys, I'd like to keep her sedated. She was pretty combative even with how out of it she was and I'd like to keep her calm. Once we determine if it's bacterial or viral, 24 hours of antibiotics then you can be in there with her. It's just highly contagious and we can't risk anyone else getting exposed."

I nod, "Okay. And how long will she be here?"

She sighs, "10-14 days."

My eyes widen as do Serv's, "Could we transfer her to San Diego once we're out of the contagious time period?"

"It's possible. We will have to see. I'll be back to check in." She walks away.

"10-14 days?!" Serv says.

"I know, not ideal. Let's just hope we can transfer her closer to home." I say.

"We talk to Sawyer, momma?" Charlie asks and points to the button.

"Yeah baby. You want to say hi?" I ask.

She nods. I push the button.

"Hi Sawyer! It's Charlie! You takin a nap, but I love you!"

"Hi baby, pops and I are here, okay. We love you. You're going to get better, okay. Just keep fighting." I say.

My phone is buzzing and I look to see it's Taylor texting me.
