Sawyer POV

I'm walking back to resource with Rachel when she speaks up. As she's about to, I observe Emily watching me with sad eyes and Rachel notices her too.

"Sawyer?" I look up at her. "Are you okay?" I bite my lip and shake my head. "Do you want to talk about it?" I stare at her for a moment and then shake my head. "Okay, you know you can, okay? You can come to resource whenever you want to, you just have to ask." I look at the floor and nod. I hear her sigh.

We make it to resource and I go to my assigned table. Rachel follows behind me and grabs my folder.

"Do I have to work?" She sighs, "Yeah Sawyer, just a little bit then you can have a break." I nod. I watch as she makes four checkboxes and look at her with a small smile. "We'll take it easy, okay?" I nod. I watch Rachel walk over to her desk and do something then come back ready to start.

Alex POV

I look down at my phone as it vibrates with a text.

Rachel: Hey Alex, it has to do with Emily McPherson. That's all I know. See you later

Me: Okay thanks!

I put my phone down and and think. 'Emily and Sawyer fighting? That's weird.'

I pull into the driveway at home and see Serv in the garage, "Hey babe!"

He comes over and gives me a kiss. "Hey back. How was practice and Sawyer's school?"

I sigh, "The school was actually really good. The principal had a shadow watching out for Sawyer when she's transitioning from class to class and during unstructured times and was open to getting her support in the class. Rachel called me twice today."

Serv looked at me, concerned, "What about? Is Sawyer okay?"

"I'm too sure. The first call, Rachel said she said fuck, but she lost a check and recovered from that, which is great. The second call, she said she caught Sawyer sprinting out of the cafeteria very upset and took her to kick, which she was aggressively doing. She then texted me that it had to do with Emily. So we can go together to get her from soccer, maybe watch some of her practice?"

"Oh jeez. Okay well some ups and downs. And Emily? As in her best friend?"

I nod. "Weird, right?" He nodded, "Okay, what time should we leave?"

I rub my forehead, "I'm think we watch the last 30 minutes. So let's get Charlie at 3:30 and then head there."

"It's 230 now, what should we do to kill the time?" He walks towards me, giving me a kiss. "I think you've got the right idea."

Sawyer POV

The bell rings indicating the end of the day. My brain hurts from working with Rachel and trying to focus in Lit.

I drag myself to the locker room and start getting ready.

I feel someone standing near me and staring. I look up and see Emily. "Go away."

"Sawyer, can we please talk?"

I clench my fists, "No." I then stand, grab my cleats and walk out. I feel myself getting more and more frustrated and try to calm myself down while walking to the fields.

We're lucky that our high school allows my team to practice here, it's a super nice facility.

I tie my cleats and start stretching. Coach calls us over and explains practice saying light drills first and then scrimmage last.

I start running through the drills and am not performing at my best. I keep getting confused, missing shots, or losing the ball, which is further frustrating me.
