Chapter 78

Sawyer POV - two days later

"Hi, babies!!" Pops says as we get off of the bus.

I stare at him and he pulls me in for a hug.

I sigh and let his presence comfort me.

"Hi babe. These two are ready for the car. I'll grab the bags." I hear momma.

"Okay. Come on Sawyer and Charlie."

We walk to Pops' car and hop in then wait for momma.

She gets in and I hear her sigh.

"Long flight?" Pops asks.

I look down.

"We can talk after these two go to bed." She says.

I squeeze my hands together and try to release some of the anxiety that I'm feeling. Maverick lays his head in my lap.

"Here, baby."

I look up and see momma holding a pop tube.

I grab it from her, "Thanks."

I pull it open and push it closed over and over, which works to ease my anxious thoughts.

We pull into the driveway and I get out, grabbing Maverick.

"Sawyer, grab your backpack." I hear momma.

I nod and grab it from the back then head inside in search of the swing.

I get into my room and beeline to it and pull Maverick in with me.

"I'm sorry buddy. I'm an anxious mess today."

He licks my face and whines.

"Sawyer?"

I peek my head out and see momma.

"You can relax for a little, but then I want to talk."

I nod.

"Chew on your tubes or your necklace, yeah?"

I nod and give her a thumbs up.

I lay back in the swing and sigh.

'Stupid brain, stop being so anxious.'

I shove a tube in my mouth and pull my phone out.

Babe😘: text me when you land. Ask your momma if I can come over. I missed you.

I sigh and put my phone away.

I let the swinging motion calm me down and feel it get stopped.

"Can I keep swinging?" I ask.

She nods, "I'm getting in though."

I smile and nod, "Mav, you gotta get out."

He grumbles and hops out and momma gets in and I pull myself closer.

She runs her fingers through my hair, "Baby, what's going on?"

I sigh, "Do you remember Mackenzie?"

"From the group home?" She asks.

I nod, "Yeah, what about her?"

"She's graduating. She turned 18."

I glance up and see momma staring at me.

"She invited me to her graduation party. At the group home, she said everyone would be happy to see me."

"And it's making you anxious? Baby, you're a ball of anxiety, I've never seen you this anxious before."
