From the point of view of Lancelot Winey (Ayanokoji)
I knew it was crazy to follow the woman who nearly killed me to an unknown place, but my thirst for knowledge was greater.
Fluger's form glowed gold and he transformed into a white hawk, after which he followed Vitch into the portal, I placed Sam gently on the ground before entering the portal.
Once I got to the other side of the portal I blinked my eyes several times just to make sure I wasn't imagining things.
I was now in a laboratory, not only that, this laboratory was too advanced to have been built in the historical era that Dicathen currently stands.
'Vitch who really are you?'
"You must be wondering who I really am, right?" My eyes widened at his words, "from your expression I got it right."
Vitch pulled a chair and sat down, Fluger landed on her shoulders, she told me to do the same as her, because the story she was going to tell me would take a while.
"Well I'm a djinn."
"Djinn?"
"I'm part of the ancient organization of mages that built the floating city of Xyrus," I won't lie I was always curious about how gravity worked on the city of Xyrus but before I had a chance to ask Victh stopped me. and she continued, "unfortunately my companions and I didn't have a good end." Vitch's peaceful expression faded as her face clearly portrayed her hateful feelings.
"What do you mean?"
Victh let out a heavy sigh that seemed to contain some of her own soul. "Do you believe in deities?"
I never believed in God, or any higher being that some people believe in. How can there be a god in a world where your level of power and influence determines how you can live your life? Parents who gave birth to physically weak or crippled babies were considered humiliation, often
mocked by others behind their backs. These babies, even if they grew up and lived beyond adolescence, would never be able to achieve anything. They would have as much recognition as a fly buzzing in someone's face: annoying, better dead, useless.
Even a woman, no matter how beautiful and charismatic she is, would just be a high-class prostitute if she didn't have the right tools to get into Japanese high society.
How could a god exist in such a world? Even if a god or deity did exist in my previous world, he certainly wasn't very merciful or loving, let alone fair.
"No." I answered firmly.
Victh let out a high-pitched laugh, "What a wonderful answer, you're right there are no deities in this world boy, but there are beings who think they are one, and I thought it was the djin's job to take them off the throne they've set themselves, but I was wrong."
I stayed silent and let Vitch continue talking.
"Lancelot, there are three continents in this world which are: Dicathen, the land of dwarves, elves and humans, Alacrya the land of humans and now of the vritra clan bacilisks, and lastly Epheotus the land of asuras."
This information didn't surprise me as much as it should, as I've always thought that summing up the world to the island of Dicathen, to say the least, is silly, especially when they don't have the technology needed to travel the seas.
The Dicathians rely heavily on magic to create tools and machines.
This is the main reason why they are still stuck in the middle ages, if they compare Dicathen to Japan they have a much higher growth potential thanks to mana, but they still haven't expanded their horizons because of it.
