The core currents

In an instant my staff was in my hands, compressing the air around it, releasing a translucent crescent of wind.

I cursed inside, my body was out of sync with my core due to the Elderwood guardian's will.

A dark wave of fire emanated from his hand blocking my attack.

I kept my mana usage constantly in check as the emerald aura around me created translucent vines that lashed out.

The ground swelled as a thorn-covered vine surged between the two of us, quickly expanding into a hedge of thorns. I didn't mean to cast a spell, but I was flustered by the sudden turn of events. My defensive instinct always leaned toward plant magic.

Inside the core, I could feel another will, separate from my own, green tendrils of rage writhing, making my stomach churn.

The Elderwood Guardian's Bestial Will was trying to dominate my body...

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw my vines dance freely around the room, suddenly, a part of the castle exploded and pieces of the building fell on top of us.

From the point of view of Caera Denoir

I couldn't help but curse under my breath at the sight of that sea of vines.

Paying attention, however, since Tessia was still conscious and quite turbulent, I deduced that she probably couldn't control the mana she released.

"Tch. That aura is too scary." I muttered under my breath.

Those vine tentacles that protect Tessia also attack anything within her range. Even if I try to cut it, more tentacles will take its place.

I step forward, gathering more mana around me.

Tessia was at the edge of her room, boosting my legs with mana, even though Tess's back was to me, the tentacles responded as I approached. Immediately, the erratically swaying vines straightened up and hurled themselves at me.

Making his way closer and closer to where Tessia was struggling to gain control over the emerald green aura that surrounded her.

I used soul fire as little as possible for fear that the basilisks' technique would get out of hand as I was in an environment predominantly made of wood.

Dodging the tendrils, I avoided wasting mana on other spells until I got to Tessia. Every step forward at this point involved me dodging at least five tendrils, until I finally reached arm's length from the troublesome princess.

Grabbing her around the waist, I prepare my final spell.

Before Tessia had a chance to attack me, the tentacles suddenly retracted and gathered around both of us before leaping out of the castle through the hole made by the explosion. I was able to react in time to catch her before we both shot into the air.

"KYYYAAAAAHHH!" Tessia's voice echoed loud enough that the entire kingdom would likely hear.

Locking my arms around her, I enveloped her in a layer of protective mana before casting my spell.

Soul fire exploded from my body the amount of time it took to cast my spell took much longer than I would have liked. As the layer of black fire slowly spread around us, burning through the vines that desperately separated me from Tessia, I had to keep my concentration at its peak to keep the spell contained.

In my peripheral vision I saw a figure approaching me.

"Where do you think you're going?" A familiar voice sounded in my ears reassuring me. "Caera get out of here, I'll take care of the rest."

"OK."

I injected mana into my dimensional ring and took out the teleportation medallion, as soon as I poured mana over it Tessia and I were enveloped in a purple aura and we left Elenoir's realm.

"Good job, Caera."

I lifted my gaze only to see my mentor leaning against one of the walls in the cave she had made her hiding place.

"Thank you, scythe Seris."
