From the point of view of Lancelot Winey
I waited anxiously for what felt like an hour, Kathyln emerged from the bathroom with a towel barely hanging over her chest and her black hair dripping in puddles of water behind her.
I got up, grabbed another towel and sat her down in front of the small dressing table in the corner of her room.
Gently, I stroked her long hair with the extra towel, then conjured a warm, gentle breeze that blew through her hair, drying it.
After that, I took a brush from the wooden dressing table. As she combed her hair, I found myself looking at her bare shoulders, thinking how small they looked. Those shoulders carried a heavy burden and the weight of too many expectations. It was easy to forget that she was just a student. Although our bodies were almost the same age, my mind was much older.
Kathyln didn't have a past life to rely on for experience and mental fortitude.
"You... are really bad at this." Kathyln's voice was soft and husky, but it still made my heart skip a beat.
"It's not like I have experience doing this sort of thing," I muttered, embarrassed. I stopped and started to put the brush away, but Kathyln looked up, catching my gaze in the mirror.
"I...didn't tell you to stop."
"Yes, Princess," I replied, the hint of a smile playing on my lips.
For a while, I just talked absently as she slowly brushed her hair.
The bedroom door swung open to reveal the figure of Priscilla Glayder who was accompanied by Moonlight.
"Lancelot when did you arrive?" The queen asked me without her amused tone what her voice normally contained, I thought it because of the situation I found myself in with her daughter, but it wasn't that, Priscilla was simply tired.
"Not in a long time your majesty." I bowed slightly, "my condolences for your losses."
"Thanks." The queen thanked her, she nodded and dozens of maids entered the room, "Lancelot would you excuse Kathyln to change?"
"Clear."
Exit the room with Moonlight following me.
"Where's Fluger?" Moonlight asked.
"In Mayburn." I replied, I stopped walking as soon as I noticed many teleportation portals being activated, "What's going on?"
"Dawsid and Glaundera's trial will begin in a few hours."
"The board went faster than I thought." admitted
"It's moments like this that government officials cannot fail."
"I agree, but I didn't expect them to open this up to the public."
"I also find that problematic, but I also think people have a right to know."
2 hours later
The great hall of Etistin's castle was filled with figures of all ages and races, some eyeing each other with disdain, others with simple curiosity.
"Son." A familiar voice sounded behind me I looked over my shoulder and saw my parents and Sam, Fluger was perched on my mother's shoulder.
'I left Caera at the Schooled inn.' Fluger said as he came to my shoulder.
"It's crowded here." Sam said.
"It was expected." My father said.
The door opened and the two remaining members of the Glayder family along with the Eralith family entered the great hall and sat on the thrones that had been prepared for them.
As soon as they sat down their respective spears came out behind them stunning the crowd.
According to Moonlight the treachery of the Three Gods Church has not yet spread, it is still active and that preventive measures have already been taken.
All groups involved are currently being captured and transported.
The door to the great hall opened again, but this time what entered it were the two dwarven spears that escorted their former king and queen.
Olfred and Mica bringing Dawsid and Glaundera was a smart move, with them escorting the prisoners they would show that the dwarven spear duo's loyalty was to the continent and not to a person who sat on the throne.
Priscilla rose to her feet just as the former king and queen of the dwarves reached the center of the room.
"The purpose of this trial," she said, her voice slow and clear, "is to determine the truth of whether Dawsid and Glaundera Greysunders," she gestured to the chained prisoners. "They actually committed the crime of treason."
Whispered conversations emanated from the spectators behind me, but my focus was on Priscilla.
"And," she added after a short pause, "to decide on an appropriate punishment, should they be found guilty."
