From Lucas Wykes' point of view

"And what the hell is that supposed to be?" I raised an eyebrow, looking around into the dimly lit room that reminded me of a poorly constructed wine cellar.

It was that poor Ravenpor house mage project that brought me here, telling me it would be something I'd be interested in. I normally would have blasted that asshole when he spoke to me so arrogantly, like he was doing me a favor, but I was quite curious.

"Welcome to one of the many humble abodes we use to hold our meetings." said a hoarse voice. I was surrounded by at least 60 hooded figures, but only the one sitting lazily in the middle as he addressed me was wearing a mask.

It was a plain white mask with two small eye sockets and a smile roughly drawn where the mouth should have been. The mask was simple enough, but the smile simply drawn conveyed a sinister feeling.

Charles Ravenpor, who was at my side, donned his own hooded cloak and knelt on one knee with his head bowed.

"Sir, I brought Lucas Wykes as you requested." He said in a careful, hushed tone.

"Ahh, the famous Mr. Wykes, here in person! Glad you were able to join us on our little... crusade!" He chuckled, diverting his attention from Charles.

I looked around. "I'm not here to join anything. I came here out of curiosity, but I'm not impressed. Who are you supposed to be anyway? You don't look like a student... don't tell me you're a professor?" I scoffed.

"How dare you?! You should be grateful we even considered letting a mutt like you join us!" One of the hooded figures to my right hissed.

"A mutt?" I echoed back, feeling a vein bulge on the side of my forehead.

I silently prepared a spell for the ungrateful who dared taunt me, but before I could finish the chant, the man behind the grinning mask snapped his fingers.

*Fwoom*

"AHH!" The hooded snob who dared call me a mutt suddenly caught fire. I couldn't help but click my tongue. Even for instant launches, this was fast... frighteningly fast.

"Well, well. That's not a very polite thing to say to our youngest member, right?" As the masked man, who was still lazily slumped on his earthen throne, spoke, the fire had already burned the boy's cloak and was burning his skin.

"AHHHHH! M-forgive me! I was wrong. I apologize! P-please!" He pleaded as he furiously tried to put out the fire. Meanwhile, the other hooded figures were too scared to do anything to help him.

Turning away from the hooded figure who was still screaming in pain, I faced the masked man. "Before I decide if I want to join this little cult of yours, what are you trying to accomplish and why do you need me?"

I couldn't feel his mana core, but it didn't feel like I was on the same level as him.

"Circumstances make me unable to act personally for the time being, so I need some capable mages in order to fully complete my plans. You see, I hate to leave loose ends." He explained while using one arm to support his head.

"Taking advantage of the absence of your director, it's your colleagues on the disciplinary committee this is the opportune time to act so that when they come back, it will be too late." He continued. After snapping his fingers again, the fire suddenly disappeared, leaving the boy writhing in pain.

of pain.

"And as for what I hope to do, let's just say my goals coincide with these people and I just thought it would be nice to kill two birds with one stone. Everyone here is disaffected human nobles who once took pride in the fact that this academy was intended only for the purest of the bloodline. Although you may be a special exception in this case, I would still like to have you on board." He responded as if he wasn't human. "Also, the whole 'accept all' motto this gym follows now makes me want to throw up; don't you agree, Mr. Wykes?" When he said that, all the hooded figures nodded fiercely in agreement. Just from his tone, I could tell this guy was smiling behind his mask.

"Whether they make you want to throw up or not doesn't matter to me. Why waste my time and energy on bugs I could eliminate at any time?"

time? The peasants who managed to penetrate this academy are no better than the low-class Adventurer thieves who walk around blindly brandishing their weapons. Even nobles who were raised in the most pampered conditions are worth nothing to me. If that's all you have to say, then I have no reason to stoop to being put on a leash and taking commands from you." I snapped at him, turning my back.

"Mr. Wykes." The masked man's voice rang in my ears, its tonality sharp as a shard of broken glass, "What I said about not liking to leave loose ends, if you walk out that door I'll be forced to kill you. You know ours. existence and one of our meeting points, you're too dangerous to be roaming free."

I turned around, "Who do you think you are?" I growled. My body was already glowing as mana poured from my mana core, ready to shoot him, but I never did. That throbbing sensation told me not to mess with him, like it was...impossible. No! I'm Lucas Wykes from the Wykes family! But who the hell was he and why did he talk like he was here all the time, taking care of us?

"I told you. I'm just a mere benefactor who came here to improve this land." As he said that, he got up and started to come towards me, "It's not shameful to kneel before an opponent with overwhelming force, you can do anything as long as you're alive, you only lose if you die. You can bow down. until your face rubs the floor you may lose your house, your titles and be forced to drink muddy water, but as long as you're alive... you can win. you will win. I live believing this, join us and get even more powerful, wouldn't it be wonderful to surpass your brother." The masked man stretched out his hand to me.

"I believe that even if our opinions are not the same, we could have some kind of mutual benefit in this." I started licking my lips in anticipation as I squeezed his hand.

From Lilia Helstea's point of view

My days were pretty hectic since Princess Tessia wasn't here at the academy, even though Clive took over the reins of the council.

It was very early in the morning, I was rushing towards the board room to leave the club finance reports with Clive, before heading to my class.

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

Suddenly an agonizing scream pierced my ears, and I immediately ran in the direction the scream had come from.

I spotted an elf student lying on the floor, her hands on her neck, blood running between her fingers.

"Hold on," I said, kneeling beside her, soft footsteps crunching the gravel driveway warning me that someone was approaching.

"Call the doctors quick." I yelled looking back, the person who had just arrived was Kai.

Kai activated the dagger that served as a communicator between the disciplinary committee members before pulling out a dual communication scroll which he deduced was connected to the academy's infirmary.

"Hi, I need paramedics, in the southwest area of the campus near the library, a girl was attacked by some kind of beast." Kai hurriedly exclaimed.

"Stay with me! Keep your eyes open." Her eyes began to slowly close, "No, no, no, stay awake, please stay awake."

"Shit!" Kai grumbled, when the girl's eyes closed completely, she was now dead in my arms.
