From Nettie Anning's point of view

The faint glow of the lighting fixtures on my bench illuminated a series of pieces scattered across the dark wood. Silver runes passed along the edge and across the surface in circles of varying sizes.

I picked up two nearly identical objects: hexagonal fittings with grooves and carvings etched inside. Both were silver alloys rather than pure silver. I speculated that they would perform better when housing active mana crystals, but would have to experiment to see which of the silvers held up better, resulting in a clean transfer of mana.

There were thousands of variables to consider when undertaking an imbuing project as complicated as this one, and I couldn't settle for anything less than perfection.

I noticed a stain on the edge of one of the grooves. With a frustrated sigh, I threw it back onto the bench.

'One more delay. This stain will prevent the mana crystal from seating properly. And I'll have to order from a different blacksmith too.' I sighed.

A communication scroll began to vibrate, indicating that someone was calling me.

"Who is it?" I asked opening the parchment.

"It's me Himes, Miss Anning." A brow furrowed into mine when I heard the voice of Gideon's secretary.

"Himes, what does Gideon want this time?"

"It's about Dicatheous, we've lost touch with him."

"Which!" I screamed.

"I already called, Gideon and Miss Watsken, to come to Etistin to discuss what happened, would you like to join them?"

"I'm going to go right away."

The capital of Sapin was very busy, the streets were filled with a panorama of bustle and noise. Traders wheeled their carts along the wide street, while the vendors and artists who had set up small tents and canopies on either side of the main road were arguing with the housewives.

I remembered from school classes that the city was built on the west coast of the continent at that time to stay out of reach of the dwarven and elven countries, as well as to keep as far away from the Glade of Beasts as possible.

"Nettie?" Emily's voice sounded behind me.

"And good sailing again, Emily." She said as I turned to face the curly green haired artificial prodigy, I didn't exactly see her as a pile of books covered most of her face.

"How is your teacher doing?" I caught some of Emily's load once the pile of books started to reach her face.

"Ugh, don't call him a teacher. My crazy master can hardly be considered sane, let alone an educator of future generations. I swear, I think I've lost count of how many times I've had to dig up my master from a pile of rubbish and useless garbage after an explosion he had caused." Emily huffed, letting out a weary sigh.

"Well, he's a teacher at Xyrus." I pointed as I walked beside her, as soon as I mentioned the Xyrus gym Emily's expression darkened.

"Did you make any friends at Xyrus Gym?" I asked, "It's a pity that my time as a student ended before yours began."

"Yes, but currently most are doing an exchange at Lanceler Academy." Emily muttered as she used the stack of books she was holding to push her glasses back.

"Lancer?! I see that relations between the two main academies of Dicathen have greatly improved."

"What do you mean?"
