From Varay Aurae's point of view

"Keep your mana usage to a minimum," I said in a low voice.

"OK." Aya replied in the same tone of voice that I had spoken.

Currently Aya and I were in the beast glades on a recon mission, recently there was a big mana disturbance here so we came to check the source of this disturbance.

As soon as we arrived from the place where the disturbance had arisen, we arrived at a large crater in the ground, at the bottom of the crater there were dozens of people, they were wearing only a few rags that barely covered their bodies.

"Slaves?!" Aya said annoyed.

We landed smoothly in front of people.

"Are you ok?" Aya asked worriedly.

"Yes we are." An old man who appeared to be the leader of the slaves spoke up.

"What happened here?" I asked.

The man related everything he knew, Aya and I listened attentively, asking only a few pointed questions.

"Who killed the Alacryan soldiers?" Aya questioned as soon as the man finished his story.

"I know who it was..." I sighed, it was unbelievable as he must have been in Xyrus miles away from here, but his mana signature was overlapping all the others.

"Who was?" my mission partner asked raising an eyebrow.

"Lancelot Winey."

"Lancelot Winey? The tournament winner among the three races?"

"Yes, that's him."

"Wait shouldn't he be in Xyrus? The new school year started today isn't it?"

"I know it doesn't make sense." I sighed in defeat.

I looked at what was left of the Alacryan base, corpses were strewn in the cave with their weapons beside them, some frozen, some burned, others simply cut.

The damage done to their bodies proved to be torture, as some had their limbs torn apart and others had cuts all over their bodies before being decapitated.

"Looks like Lancelot had a little party here." Aya said.

"Let's contact the council and report what happened."

Looking up, I could see the castle floating between layers of clouds. The points around the large structure were soldiers mounted on flying mana beasts. With the unshakable sun shining directly overhead, casting shadows on the sea of clouds below the castle and flying guards, it was an imposing sight that was sure to make the jaw drop of anyone who had never visited.

Most entrances were through dimensional portals, so as we approached the guards immediately surrounded us. The soldiers' shining weapons and their battle-ready bonds. But when we got close enough for the soldiers to see who we were, they formed two lines, creating an aerial path for Aya and I to head toward the entrance.

"General Varay! General Aya!" The guards saluted in union from the top of their flying beasts. We slowly followed the path, until we reached the double doors that gave access to the castle.

So we landed inside the castle and headed quickly to the council meeting room.

The guards on either side of the wooden door immediately backed away, opening the entrance as they saw us approaching.
